This might be old news to some but I've just seen the new Z6 line of scopes from Swarovski... WOW... Extra eye relief in all magnifications and 6 x zoom factor... 1 - 6 x 24, 1.7 - 10 x 42 and the 2 - 12 x 50... Can't wait to see through one in person... They do look impressive. The 1.7-10 x 42 would about cover any hunting need. | |||

Hmmm...that's a pretty wide range of magnification. Those scopes will cover a huge range of hunting situations. I'd very much like to check one out in person. I'm sure they'll command a hefty price, but they're probably worth the $$. Are they out now, or soon to be? _____________________________________________________ No safe queens! | |||

Yeah, that 1.7-10x42 just might be the perfect do-everything hunting scope - certainly for a European. I fancy the illuminated reticule version. Any ideas on what prices might be? Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you.... | |||

The best thing about them, is the 2nd image plain recticles! The only thing that turned me off of Euro optics is now finally being taken out! | |||

So if they are second image plain does that mean the TDS works the same at all power levels? | |||

That's a big mistake, none of the rangefinding type of reticles can function but in the one power where they are calibrated for! I will take a first focal plane reticle anytime instead of having my reticle changing constantly as I zoom up and down! bigbull | |||

I re read Swarovski's TDS Manual that came with my scopes. It says that most all the old models have reticles on the second image focal plane. "The 3X12X50 on the other hand has a reticle in the first image plane and will work at any power selection when using the TDS Reticle" So I guess the new ones will not work at any power level and only max. Does the TDS work at a "specific" power setting or the "highest" power setting? | |||

All the current models except the PH 3-12-50 must be on full power. | |||

I am a great fun of Swaro (I have 8 of them) but those must be the most ugly scopes I have ever seen. Would you stick one on a classic custom? All I want is a 1" tubed 1.5-6x42 | |||

1894, you are right on the illuminated version. Don't like that lumpy rear bell - but I might live with it for the functionality. The non-ill version looks sweet - bit like a S&B Zenith. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you.... | |||

I phoned Swarovski and they say the TDS works on any power setting on the new scopes. | |||

Here is a picture of the non-illuminated 2-12x50 (the model which would interest me the most).  As Claret mentioned, Swaro seems to have gone to a new, and somewhat suprisingly looking system for their illuminated scopes. Here is the same scope as the one above, but with illuminated reticle (sorry, the picture I found was not quite the same size as the one above, the two scopes have identical dimensions, apart from the illumination swith and weight)...  The data on the field of view sounds fabulous, as does the 6x magnification factor (e.g. 1.7-10 or 2-12). They seem to be a tad longer and a tad heavier than the Zeiss Victory line (at least the models I compared). - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... The 1.7-10 is like 2 scopes in one! You can put it on all your hunting rifles, not the varmint ones, and have the same perception in each one! Even the DGR. Now if I could win the lottery! | |||

Also no sprung eye cup.....  I agree the non illuminated looks better but I still don't like the curve on the front of the ocular and the radius to the objective. | |||

1894, there is an upside to this: current models, which are excellent by any standard, will discounted when these new ones hit the market, especially second hand trade-ins. Pick yourself up whatever you fancy. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you.... | |||

They are supposed to have greater eye relief. Does anyone know what it is? Also, what is the "EE" model? Does that stand for Extended Eye relief? Thanks. Tim | |||
