Just a hypothetical, unless Washington decides to bail me out. Application would be range work both off the bench for load and rifle testing, and 4-position practice (no competition, just skills building). Rifle would be a with a (hopefully) accurate sporter weight centerfire boltgun. Assume 100 yards as the standard distance, definitely nothing over 300 yards. All hunting chores would be handled by a different scope.

Which would you prefer, the Leupy FX-III 6X or the FX-III 12X? At least offhand, in my limited experience I've found that 6X offers more than enough wobble on a 7-8 lb rifle, but my technique is surely the problem rather than the magnification.

I should mention I'm now in the middle-aged "arms aren't quite long enough" stage of life...

For bench work exclusively, I use a 20x, or higher for developing loads. Sure get great groups when I find the magic load for each rifle.
After finding the magic load, I switch to a hunting scope.

I'd use what you plan to hunt with.
If you get used to one setup it's a pain to have to get used to another one.
