Just bought one of Cabelas supplex Guidewear shirts and zip off pants. Seems pretty cool (temperature wise) in the 90F heat today.

If you were expecting something clever, sorry.

Can you just imagine a bunch of poofters dressing one of you curmudgeons up for a full bag? Wait, a group of hard core veterans would be better!

Lemme see, we could have them do a "before" and "after" of you, Ray, Nick and RAB. Terry could be the savvy announcer since he has some fashion sense. Walter could be the camera man.

Hey, sounds like a great reality TV show!

As luck would have it, I was considering getting one of the shirts. Is that a recommendation?

I don't know about the shirts, Will, but I have two pair of the zip-off pants. I like them, and they are the only trousers I wore on my last trip to RSA. For shirts, y'all ain't gonna believe this s@#t! My wife went to the Goodwill store and bought five nice, nearly new, khaki shirts, three of which were Dockers. I am still wearing them. My buddy, Killer, asked me, "Doesn't it bother you that some dead guy wore them?" It doesn't. He won't need them anymore (LOL).

Bill: I've never had a desire to wear the pants with zip off legs, but I have thought about shirts like that. How does it work?

Gee big guy,
I think I'll just stay with my Wranglers and tan cotton shirts..I always toss a couple of pair of shorts in, but not in Tanzania where wranglers and heavy cotton fight off the Tetsi flies...Then there are the ticks of RSA and the Mopani flies of the Masai...Only the bloody PHs of Africa can wear shorts in that kind of bug country, they have built up an immunity...

I do wear shorts for golf however!!

I tried zip-off trousers in Mozambique. Never again! There's a local hibiscus that has a pretty little flower but grows on a vine that is living barbed wire . . . and it's the thickness of a pencil lead. In the shade it's invisible until you run into it. Then it's easy to see because of all the bright red when you run into it! Tetse flies are another consideration. Maybe I'd wear shorts in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Besides, the Fab 5 is trying to train Metrosexuals whatever they are. I never heard of a Metrosafarial.

I have no idea what the hell a metrosexual is, and probably don't want to know.

My boy is moving from here in town to Florida at the end of this month (okay, so I cry just a little, but usually just once a day) and always wanted to go bone fish fishing.

I figured this is my excuse to visit Florida, do a little fly fishing, and buy a new fishing shirt.

Ann,

Some of the boys started saying they missed their wives, so Walter decided to make sure they stay away from whatever is available in the bush.

He succeeded too

This has got me at the verge of tears....I could see the true good humor of the initial posts, then there was Terry Carr's flash of brilliance with a new book proposal, and then, as usual, Saeed steps in with a piece of profound evidence that every one else was 'dancing' around when it came to appropriate safari-wear! Oh my, Walter is indeed a man not to shrink from any opportunity to make us laugh...especially when he is on safaris!! Thank you Saeed! Walter you are going to have to shave that belly if you are going to expose it! Na, that would not do any good...!

I just heard it on TV the other day and did a search.

Metrosexual - the term refers to a single man who loves to indulge and pamper himself -- going against the stereotype of men as boorish slobs with questionable grooming habits.

Have fun fishing, I have some of those shirts also. If I could get slowed down, I wouldn't mind going to chase bone fish, never chased um yet, but its got to be a blast. Good luck.

Now see, I would never wear a bandana with that outfit.....It says Pirate, It says Caribbean. I suggest something more African, perhaps a bush hat with leopard skin band (fake leopard skin of course)set at a rakish angle and an ostrich feather in the hat band jauntly waving around

We have a local version of FabFive on Swedish television, and about a month ago, the poofters took care of a gentleman named Peter Vilidu who is the Swedish King's head gamekeeper. Amongst other things, they redecorated Mr Vilidu's trophy room, painting it dark crimson and remade it nicely in some sort of Hemingway fashion, so there is still hope for Nick et al.

Martin

Saeed,

I spewed my morning coffee as I scrolled down this thread. Here I was laughing at Terry's book chapters then I see this picture you posted!

All I can say is, My GRACIOUS! Looks like you have some real interesting mornings in camp, Saeed. I can't imagine what the nights are like.

I'm sorry to say that some cases are simpley beyond proffesional help, as we evidently can see here... The most humane option is a well padded room.

Thanks, Saeed - I tell people how scary Africa is, but they have no idea....

The only thing that would improve that outfit is if Walter would shave half of his head...
