I was just e mailed an SCI survey. I was shocked.

I gave them an ear full on their last 2 questions.

We have to give SCI credit. At least they did it.

Sending the survey is easy . . . reading it is something altogether different. I did the same thing.

I also gave them an earful. What the hell are they thinking with some of the things that they are thinking of doing, and want our opinion on?

While our rights as hunters continue to be nibbled away at they want to know whether we want an SCI credit card or auto insurance through SCI? At least, as Larry points out, they did a survey. Good grief.

Mine is done, my main focus is on hunters rights, not insurance, credit cards, awards, or records. I think I got my point across.

I did find it a little ironic this popped on Survey Monkey after completing the survey. I am sure it is related to an anti-hunting group.

Yes, someone should point that one out to SCI as well. Makes you want to puke a second time. (First time with some of the things that they are thinking of doing)

I guess I wasn't that emphatic in my reply, but I share the (so far) group responses on it.

As to survey monkey, they plug in what the topic is and attach other surveys if you are interested. All the ones I have gotten before are related to medical stuff as all the survey monkey stuff I have done is work related.

I noticed that the ill-conceived notion of an SCI booking agency also crept into the survey. That idea is not dead by a long shot.

Don't get too bent out of shape over the credit cards and auto insurance. It is a common way to raise money painlessly. MANY organizations do it. It is a far cry from having their own booking agency.

People that sign up for those services through SCI create income sharing for that organization.

Might be true, but SCI has never been very open where that money goes.

The endless times we have asked them what have they done, especially in Africa, we never got a straight answer.

And if oen does a google on that subject, one gets very little information!

Clearly, the SCI needs money to foster conservation and pay the high-dollar lawyers to protect our gun and hunting rights.

Thus, I'm not against "innovative" or "creative" means to keep the money flowing in...one cannot entirely depend upon donations, especially if the numbers of hunters in the World are declining.

But, if this creative commercial approach is adopted, then the SCI MUST be totally transparent with their finances.

If there's anything shady about their money dealings, then we are shooting ourselves in the feet supporting them. I will never support a sleazy operation.

I hope the SCI understands this, otherwise they will be writing their own demise.

I did suggest that they need to move to election of their officers via individual member vote, rather than the byzantine election by chapter, which near as I can tell is so unaccountable who knows what is going on.

Well the survey is obviously a sampling of members as I don't know anyone who received it so far.

As for the credit card issue......... who cares. It is certainly nothing I would partake in but some folks do. I am also curious as to whether all the people so horrified by it put up a stink with the beloved NRA about their credit card or the American Quarter Horse Association and the myriad of other orgs. that have gone this route to raise funds.

As far as I am concerned this aspect of the thread is a whole lot of gum flapping about nothing unless you are going to black ball every other organization out there that does it and withdraw support from them as well.

SCI makes lots of dumb mistakes but save the energy for the items that really DO deserve a negative response.

Which is one of the reasons that one of my recommendations was that they should consider terminating the paid permanent staff and hiring new staff that is more customer-focused and oriented. Cool

Personally I don't mind if SCI is offering credit cards, selling insurance or SCI emblazoned bikinis but offering a booking service for hunts and other activities is in direct competition with its members. If they set this up it will personally impact Wendell, Aaron, myself and anyone else offering legitimate booking services. To me this is lunacy. Imagine how that might effect a safari operator not on the SCI preferred list if SCI has its own booking agency.

Yes, you would of thought the uproar it generated, when they tried to go ahead with this originally, would have been enough for them to scratch that ill conceived idea off the list of "new ideas to generate money". The staffers/executive who came up with this concept must be completely out to lunch.

Nothing like biting the hand that feeds it. Surely any further attempts to implement a booking service would cause a huge backlash..... and deservedly so. I would hope that there are enough executive members with sufficient grey matter between the ears to prevent a suicidal move like that.

It may be a common way to raise money painlessly, but it is not painless for those of us who sell insurance for a living. I have had to deal with the NRA members who are led to believe the raising money for the NRA is more important than local agents.

SCI has never had any respect for its general membership - except to get as much money out of them as they can.

They never listen to suggestions, they never answer questions.

They live in their own little world full of little circles of self glorification!

That is all SCI cares about right now.
