Jim SchaeferLeave for Zim in 3 days! (Matobo Hills)
Well boys,
My Dad and I are leaving for your second trip to Zimbabwe in three days. We are hunting with Matupula Safaris for a "supercat" from the Matobo Hills region. We will be using hounds on this hunt. They are pre-baiting as I type this and I can barely contain the excitement. Wish us luck! Will post a report early August when we are back.

Sure hope you and your Dad have a
WONDERFUL time. I have very few regrets in this life and one of them was that I never got around to going on a great trip like that with my Dad

This has to be one of the greatest leopard hunts available. I wish I could afford it, best of luck!!!

218 BeeJim,
The She-Wolf and I did this exact hunt back in '02 with Matupula; you'll have a great time!
Gotta admit I'm a bit jealous that you're getting to experience Africa alongside your Dad. You're making memories that'll last a lifetime!
If you're a history buff at all, the short trip to Rhodes-Matopos Park and the easy climb to view Cecil Rhodes grave and to visit the memorial to Allen Wilson's Lost Shangani Patrol shouldn't be missed...

CHAPUISARMESHave a safe trip as these are not your 'Friendly' pussycat, as has been said, enjoy yourselves and take as many pictures as you can as these will be your memories when Dad's not hunting anymore.
I did not hunt with my Dad as he was a non hunter but I sure have hunted with my Son who is now married and I am divorced but those photos put him and I in the lounge room as if it was yesterday.
My only regret is that he can not join me on my trip to Africa in just under 4 weeks.
Cheers and Good Luck.

Jim SchaeferThank you all for your kind words. I am at work today and I am not really working. Cannot contain the excitement. A hunt report will indeed come as soon as I get back. If I have internet access over there, doubtful, I will give a quick update or two. Thanks!

I rode back with the Schaefers from JNB to ATL on 8-1. Hard hunt and no cat IIRC.

HuttyHave a great trip and best of luck. I will concur that hunting leopard with hounds is far from a slam dunk. By buddy tried with hounds when we went to Zim in 09 and was unsuccessful despite best efforts. That's why its called hunting.
