Where's the charge? Where is the dust flying? Where is the lion stretched out in a dead run?

Looks to me like a warning growl at distance with a high definition, high magnification camera. Nice camera.

It's someone's idea of a real, death-defying charge, I guess.

FYI, Guys for your own edification...it is the % of black vs. pink on the nose...NOT...that the nose be totally black. Maybe Bwanamich will chime in here and give us an estimate based on that. But...that nose has a fair amount of black.

Another thing...if you will listen to what Bwanamich says when he talks about the % black on the nose...you WILL learn something...cause...he does know what he is talking about...I will bet the ranch (or the hospital in my case) on it. Wink

Figure 1. Relationship between known age and nose pigmentation
for adult male and female lions in Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater:
(•) Serengeti females (n=62); (s) Serengeti males (n=22); (°) Crater
females (n=11); (Δ) Crater males (n=10) (Whitman, et al. 2004). Males
with at least 60% of the nose pigmented are about 6 yrs old.

So...I estimated that lion at about 60% black pigmentation...estimates him at ~6 yrs of age...so maybe you guys should have been saying 60% black nose...he has got potential. Wink

Guys & Gals,

The nose thing is just a tool. It is not the end-all-beat-all criteria. But...it does have merit and those that hunt lion should try to learn it. Those that poo-poo it having merit...really just show how truly ignorant they are. Cool

Frostbit,

Wasn't really aimed at you...sorry!

But...everyone is quick to poke humor at the nose-color tool as if it is with out merit. The truth is that it has a lot of validity. Maybe not useful in every situation...but a valuable tool none-the-less.

The lion in that picture along with the comments...show that some have not studied the process as that nose had a fair amount of black on it and it is the % color change that matters.
