boom sticki am sorry but i think giraffe's are too cute to hunt
its kinda like shooting a dolphin, they are not rabbid maneaters like lions or people stompers like cape buff, does anyone else feel the same way or am i going peta (people for the ethical treatment of animals, a monkey has the same rights as a man oginization) what do you think?
what animals do you think are too cute to hunt?

475/480I always thought (peta) stands for people eating tasty animals.

Aspen Hill AdventuresPlease stop breathing that Kalifornia air!

The local whitetails are cute as well as all the squill and cotton tails on my property but they still get hunted and eaten by moi.
I never had a bunny, squill or deer attack me. Is that a reason to not hunt them?
Giraffe need thinning out just like everything else.

JLS...if you've never eaten YOUNG giraffe, you don't know what your missing...it's right up there with eland.

boom sticki have no problems with deer and bunnies...but is there anything you would not hunt? i know if it has fur or feathers i am supposed to want to hunt it but some animals i would rather admire as a beautiful painting or a sunset. warthogs...now those are good hunting

KevinNYWhat you hunt is your personal decision and requires no explanation to anyone. For example, some guys won't shot the minature antelope, others are obsessed with them.
04 October 2005, 22:20
lobogaSo we should only hunt homely animals?

man that was funny, I never eat one but I shoot one....
I think that is not for everybody, after I shot it I feel a little miserable, but what the hell....
Because of this I LOVE to hunt pigs, no mixed feelings fooling around...

Die Ou JagterI had no problem in taking a Giraffe, my only problem is why SCI dosen't count them a a game animial and score them, it could be by horn demension as other horned animials are or by skull measurement as with the cats and the same goes for Zebra using skull measurements.

04 October 2005, 22:28
boom sticksounds kinda stupid but in a way yeah...if they are cute i dont realy wantto put a bullet through em' bears, yes. but i guess as kevinNY said it is a personal thing, so i guess the question is what would YOU not hunt.

look at those pigs

ceweI share your feelings on giraffe even though it´s irrational. I´d have a hard time hunting rhino as people say they´re dumb and easy -a charge would be a different thing. In a way I´d want to hunt ele but I have mixed feelings -that´s one I will hunt though...
04 October 2005, 22:39
boom stickcewe...i guess that is the "fair chase" hunting, either the animal or you are being chased

04 October 2005, 22:49
mehulkamdarPersonally, I don't see why any animal that is abundant should not be hunted. In today's world we need to put an economic value on the environment in order to safeguard it and if that means running a well organised hunting and conservation program, perfect!

Personally - and this is something that I have discussed with friends here - I would prefer to hunt something that I could eat and I am not likely to spend my very meagre allowance on trophy hunting but then, again, I have no argument with anyone who des this in a fair, legal and ethical manner.
Good hunting, everyone!

patrkyhntrI have no desire to hunt giraffe, but have no problem with those that do. My major problem is that I like to get my animals mounted. Where the heck would I put a giraffe? My trophy room has only a sixteen foot ceiling. I ate some giraffe last time I was in RSA. Wonderful stuff.

interboatSome of you guys have been watching way too many Disney movies. We don't hunt animals because they're ugly, we hunt them because we can. Too cute to shoot? What an absurd concept.

like the saying goes, sacred cows make the best burgers...
dolphins must taste like rockyroad icecream.
but seriously...i know it is irrational but ugly or dangerous animals are just easier to kill. you dream of bear, lion of buff hunts but not many people just cant wait to kill a giraffe. i dont shun those who do, i would just rather give one a hug and pet it
04 October 2005, 23:06
PeterI have no desire to hunt giraffe either.

ManCannonYou'll think cute and cuddly until one stomps your ass... I was once attacked by a mule deer. Nothing came of it as my father pulled me away and the deer ran off. Any wild animal is dangerous. If you think they're too cute to shoot, then you've not been around them enough. Nothing inside the law is off limits to me...

I've told my wife that I want one for a hallway runner.

cable68It's a personal thing for me, but I couldn't hunt any of the cats. I have no problem with others doing so, and I could definitely kill one to save myself, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt one.
I would love watching a leopard climb in the tree and feed. I'd probably have more fun filming from the blind while someone else had the gun.

DesertRamI didn't really want to hunt giraffes until I saw them in their native habitat. In an area where they are routinely hunted they can be very challenging to stalk. A challenging hunt is a rewarding hunt. By the time I decided I wanted to shoot one, our safari was winding down and we were out of time. Now I'm looking for an excuse to return to Vaughan's place in Namibia to hunt one, along with another Hartmann's zebra for a pedestal mount. Oh yeah, and another kudu! Don't discount something out of hand.

I got a zebra for that purpose. By the way, my wife loves horses, but wanted a zebra for a rug. Go figure.

eyedocGiraffe are one of my favorite animals to target on safari. They are huge and present a real challenge for archery equipment.I have whacked two so far and will surely take another on my safari next summer.
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

boom sticko.k. bowhunting sounds better. fair chase

MasteriflemanI relate to boom stick and cewe, for both of their reasons. Boom stick because they are cute and relatively harmless and cewe because I know my thinking is irrational. Much more fun to whack something that can whack back. On the other hand, there are Kudu, Impala, Sprinkbok and Zebra. It's not rational, just personal.

But I have shot jackals...
When does irrational turn into insane...

GraftonThe things that make a giraffe a trophy animal to me are the skin and the size of the animal. If they were colored like camels they would be less desirable. Same goes for the zebra.
05 October 2005, 02:54
Paul TunkisYour from California right?

Seriously, I'd wack one if it was a game management issue. I thought about it, wanted the hide tanned for a rug. Then I found out the tanning costs! OUCH! I have some nice photos and some great memories associated with these wonderful animals. I probably wouldn't drop one unless, well, unless I change my mind.

I would try Dolphin, if I could catch one on hook and line. So far I/we have never gotten one to bite. Live or dead bait.

Giraffe I would shoot no problem.

Use Enough GunHere is a photo of a beautiful giraffe and beautiful hunter. First big game animal ever.
05 October 2005, 06:11
KenscoI feel the same way. My "not interested" list includes giraffe, elephant, hippo, small antelope, primates, rare species, rhino, croc., snow leopard, mouflan, Asian sheep. I'm sure there are others.
Everything else needs to stay out of my way.
It doesn't have anything to do about them being cute. They just don't peak my interest.
05 October 2005, 06:14
safarimanI booked a hunter this year for whom the girraffe was the #1 Species of interest. He took a big old stink bull and had the entire hide tanned whole. It is a Beautiful trophy! I, personally, am not interested in shooting one, no particular reason, it just dosn't get my juices flowing, so to speak. I will also admit that I had VERY mixed emotions when I shot my bull elephant in '04. Elation and remorse all mixed together. For about a year, I was sure that I would not shoot another, now I am certain that I will!!! To each his own, within the limits of law and ethics, says me.....

A panda, even if they were abundant and not because they're cute. I just can't respect a bear that sits on his ass nibbling bamboo as it's lifes ambition. Though it's reported they do kill people on occasion.
Hunting certain dolphin species out of a kayak would be quite a thrill, as would be hunting them from the beach as they hunt smelt in the surfline as we see Pacific white-sided dolphins doing in CA.
Be a need for a whole new forum on AR for harpoon rifles,
They're also very good eating.

bwanajcjI don't believe there are any animals too cute too hunt, yes i have killed a giraffe and would do so again (gladly).
Dolphin now that sounds like an interesting hunt, kinda like shooting skeet. sounds like fun to me.
