Anybody made their hotel reservations for '12 yet for the SCI convention? Mandalay Bay says they are not taking reservation until May-June for the convention. Semms late to me.

Mark,

I believe April 1 Mandalay Bay will be taking SCI reservations.

Several of the vacation packages, www.aa.com,
hotels.com, travelocity etc have Mandalay Bay listed but at a higher rate than I believe SCI will be charging.

There are GREAT deals on hotels located near Mandalay Bay, like Luxor, etc. If someone does not care about staying at the Convention Hotel you can do the room very cheaply.

Mark,

We booked through Southwest Airlines for Feb.1-Feb.4 at the Luxor which has an indoor walkway to the Mandalay Bay Resort. The rooms cost us a total of $210. Total. I just checked a minute ago and now it is $262 for the same three night.

I tried making reservations 2 weeks ago, but couldn't. Called SCI and they said rooms would be released as of April 1st.

Thanks all! I booked the Luxor for the whole thing at not a bad price but they told me I can rebook later if they have a cheaper rate later for the convention.

I've made my reservations at Mandalay Bay -- I think that this hotel will fill up in a hurry.

Of course, it's a LOT cheaper to stay right across the street, but you only live once.

I'm not very familiar with Las Vegas. Which hotels are within walking distance to the convention?

Don't you just love those staggered rates they all use! I just gritted my teeth and booked Mandalay Bay. Once again I'm finding costs at Las Vegas to be app. 33% higher than at Reno.

Luxor is nice, and the MB is very nice. Not worth the extra money to me or the wife tho, so she will go to the spa instead and let me spend more on my Namibia hunt, so we are at the Luxor. Smiler

Just got back from there, a couple of weeks ago. Hotel is only a place to sleep, as far as I'm concerned. Big Grin Good deals everywhere. They are still suffering from the economy and are desperate for business. Don't know how many resorts we saw, started and abandoned.

I'm going to book today. Most importantly, what hotel / bar where will the AR members be hanging out at? It would be nice to meet some of you in person.

Just made plane and hotel reservations to go to SCI. Nonstop from Houston makes it easy. Will be staying at the Luxor. This will be my first trip to SCI and I am really looking forward to it. While I know that it is a pain for the exhibitors, having SCI almost a month after DSC helps justify the trip too.

There won't be much to see poolside in January in the Mojave Desert. Average daytime highs are 50's (14-15C).

One thing to keep in mind - everything is HUGE in Vegas.....including walking distances.
