I'll be hunting the Luangwa Valley in late August and early September. What daytime and nighttime temps can I expect?

That's a fair estimate. Figure 5ºF either way. Sleeping should be quite comfortable, but I will add that by the end of September, it gets seriously warm.

This is about what I recall early Sept, chilly early in the mornings (hooded sweatshirt and longs nice for the truck), shorts (if so inclined) fine for the first stalk of the day on.

Prepare yourself for some very warm weather, the valley is known for its hot temps. A major issue is dehydration. I normally hunt there in october and I can tell you even as an African the heat some days is hectic. Late August is when our summer sort of starts and is the tail end of our winter, Although our winter is a joke for some of you. The summer temps are not.

Do not forget to take your Malaria meds, on time and on schedule. Take repellant precautions as well. Best of luck on your safari, David

In early September the heat in the Luangwa Valley gets intence in mid afternoon, but is cool at night. Hunting is OK and most of the high grass is burned away. water pans are getting dry, pushing the game to the river.

My favorite time of year to hunt the Valley is the last week of June, all of July, and the first week of August. The temp, in June is COLD at night, and the day time temps rarely exceed 75 degrees, and by the first week of Aug the nights are still nice for sleeping, but the day time temps get into the low to mid 90s! The Valley is hotter than the rest of Zambia, but is nice hunting between the last of June to mid Aug!

What concession are you hunting in the valley? I've hunted the upper, and lower Lupande, and the last time I was there the game was pleantifull, and If you have a leopard on license, you should have good luck there if you have booked 14 days or more, and get baits out early!

................GOOD LUCK! beer

Thanks to all. Macd37, I'm not sure of the concession, going with a PH I've hunted with several times, so no worries. Going for buff, croc, hippo, Chobe bushbuck, etc. We fly to Lusaka, then charter out.

Brice,
The only thing I would add is that if you go into "the hills", temperatures could reach higher. It was 107 there when we were looking for roan.
