They offered me a forest bongo hunt in cameroon for late June - early July. Someone have hunted in this season? The climate conditions are terrible? mario

That's getting late in the season. I hunted very early, March, and conditions were too dry, but I got a bongo. End of April/May is prime.

Mario, There is no difference in the rain forest as far as bugs and snakes. You want it to rain so the bongo will move and make it easier to track them. Mike

I found hunting in July was fine. The area I was in had more rain. But that was good. Easier to find and follow tracks. It was cooler under the jungle canopy, too. Also I found the drier season harder to move through because the jungle canopy is thinner. So all the brush and vines on the floor were thick . . . couldn't see my feet and tripped a lot. The wet season canopy was very dense. So much less light reached the floor. All that green stuff was now brown and clear. Little if any tripping at all. Funny, but the bugs were also much less . . . especially the ants. The earlies drier season had lots of buzzing around especially from these big flies. The later wet season was pretty clear. Only thing bothering us were the sweat bees (few if any mosquitos!). The sweat bees mean no harm. But if they get in your clothes or you put your hand on them, you'll get stung. Hunters with bee sting allergies might be cautious (it's along way for help) or bring along lots of that steriod stuff. Had been warned about the number of poisonous snakes in Cameroon's forests. But never saw one in either the drier or wetter parts of the forest hunting season. I spoke to some prospective jungle hunters who wanted to wear snake boots - seems kinda hot and heavy? Hope this helps!

Mario, Get yourself some Coulston's Duranon Permanone. This spray kills Mosquito's, Tick's, Ant's...anything that crawls over your clothing or Mosquito netting. Follow the directions! It is for your clothing, not your skin! It works better than anything I've ever tried. As for snakes...stay frosty! Read up on treating snake bite with a stun gun. The Snake Doctor was specifically made for snake and venomouns insect bites. Easy to carry anywhere and could save your life. I wanna see some Bongo pics! Don't worry one bit about snakes and bugs. In fact, I had very few problems with insects in the Rain Forest. Snakes? sure they're there, but the pygmies will spot them long before they are a problem for you. There is a reason you walk behind the the trackers and the PH. Just don't stick your hand under logs, and look at the ground before you sit your butt down . I did see a black forest cobra there, and my PH had photos of a Gabon viper that they had killed, but I could probably find a copperhead in the woodpile in my backyard if I poked around enough. Don't worry, If snakes could use the internet, they'd bitch about their fear of humans. (I'd go the the US, but I'm afraid of the people. Signed Mamba) (Mamba-Don't sweat the people, they stay in a night, sot he party scene is good here. Come on over. Signed Rattler)
