We hardly ever see any discussions about hunting in Botswana. Why is that?

Is it really more expensive than Tanzania? I can't seem to get to any web sites that provide prices.

Wink,

As Mike said the hunts that are offered in Botswana are often quite expensive and the variety of game that can be hunted is limited. Game like lion, leopard, sitatunga, sable and roan that one might build a safari around are protected so basically elephant, a few buffalo, Kalahari species in the desert and ranch hunts are all that are offered there. Having said that the hunting can be very good for truly big ele and the ranch hunts can be top notch at reasonable prices and offer a good variety of game.

You are currently pretty much limited to elephant and ranch hunts. If you were fortunate to have hunted in the delta count yourself lucky as it is a truly enchanted area. Sadly it is virtually limited to photo now. Botswana has had a reputation for very high priced hunts, and certainly outfitters like Johan Calitz fit the bill, but it was possible to get a reasonably priced hunt there. I have done 10 day Buffalo/plainsgame hunts in the Delta for $16,000. Not cheap, but also not at the top end of the spectrum. I would love to return, all 4 of my prior hunts were there, but with the delta closed my DG hunting will probably be elsewhere. The ranch hunting is good, however, and, as Mark said, reasonable.

I reckon the price of hunts in bots also has something to do with the amount of time and effort it takes to acquire permits, the government has quiet a list for permit applications.

Things do change. I did a 10 day buff and plains game hunt in the delta for $7500 including trophey fees and all airfare in 1986
Saved up for almost two yrs for that trip.
