Just looking ahead to next years trip. We will probably have some time either going into the bush or returning to spend some down time in Pemba.

Any suggestions on where to stay, what not to miss, what not to do?

Thanks
Jim

Stay at Kambakos beach lodge. You don't have to hunt with them to stay there...

Tim,

Did you do anything while in Pemba or just hang out at the lodge?

Cheers
Jim

I hang out there and walk up an down the beach. There is a little hole in the wall bar and grill to the south, and there is a B&B just up to the north with a nice little bar. You can snorkel right out the back door. You have to walk 1/2 a KM out to get waist deep, but there are some beautiful shells out there, no fish though. If you are there a few days, I hear the offshore fishing is good. Honestly with the fresh seafood Jumbo's crew serves you, the view and setting, I really never want to go far. If you need me to help hook you up, let me know...BTW- most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen anywhere on earth...

Damn, if I was put up at a place like that on the way in to hunt, I might never make it to camp!

Mike, that's why I stay there on the way out! But it would be a nice place to knock off some jet lag.

I vote we start an ex-pat community there and I can see Mike Jines as mayor, Tim Herald as sheriff, Jim as city manager and I will be happy in a small role as dogcatcher....

Fellas, one of the original "Shootist" members and a legendary sixgunner who developed the Taylor throat for accurizing revolvers is now a missionary with Iris International in Pemba. Jim Taylor is a fine man and has written a lot of good articles on sixguns and hunting with them. If you appreciate a good revolver and are passing through, you might inquire.

Russell, I agree. but I would rather just be all y'all's campaign managers! (buy votes with beers) As dogcatcher, you might be the busiest of anyone.

Before you get all excited about buying a quiet place in Pembe, recall that large quantities of gas are being developed offshore, and the LNG plant might be sited there.

Lots of heavy industry, government types, air and boat support, etc.

About 10 years of pissing and moaning on AR.

Please, please, we beg you, go somewhere else

Mike,

Told Joyce about your post last night. She chuckled. Then she asked, "How long are we staying?"

She had seen Tim's video of Jumbo's place on the beach before.

If you and Joyce are spending any time in Maputo, my wife can give you the straight scoop on hotels, restaurants, etc. from a nurse's perspective. She's a BSN, MSN and Doctorate in Nursing practice, and spent three tours in Moz working for the American Hospital Association trying to modernize their hospital systems.

Thanks
Jim

Its a long drive but the roads aren't too bad.
Relaxing at Jumbo's PBL for a few days is lovely and beats staying in town as the town isn't that great and offers more chance of contracting malaria.

Probably have one overnight on the way in, then the drive. Might fly out. Depending on the success of the hunt may stay in Pemba a few days on the way out.
