Went to CAR this past April and shot a real nice LDE and giant forest hog. The shipping charges come to $2659.
Am I out of line or is this bill out of line?
They are being shipped to South TX Fur so no inland flying.

Bluefin,

are they going air or ocean freight? Does the price include the brokerage fees and the add terminal charges, cartage, shipping from port to Texas, etc?

I shot a very nice Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe last December. F&F did all of my paperwork, etc from Harare to my front door. Jump thru the hoops there in Hararte/Zim for export, crate and ship to the port in Mozambique, get it to NYC via ocean freight, pay the customs fees, etc; and finally, get it on a freight truck to my home in SW Idaho. 187KG shipped weight. $2150 +/-. It arrived here safe and sound and the hide halves look great according to my taxidermist. Am I delirious about the charges? No. Am I overjoyed that they arrived safe and sound? You bet your sweet bippy!! Would I use them again? In a heartbeat!!

Bluefin, I have found that most hunting companies/taxidermists are in bed with shipping companies. I get quotes from several shipping companies. I have found hugh differences in the price from the recommended shipping company and the other quotes.
Good luck

Bluefin,
I had 4 crates (hides, horns and Tusks) air freight from Tanzania to western Canada this past April with 350 kg total weight and it was 2600 USD. Your cost sounds a little steep to me but are their any extenuating (multiple different shipping companies, mounted trophies) circumstances?

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

bluefin, everyone wants a big bite outta our ass. Didn't you know we're all Millionaires now? Why if we can go hunting Internationally, and spend tens of thousands of dollars, surely we don't mind a few thousand dollars to mail our trinkets home. That's the mind set we're stuck with and I feel your pain. I just paid $2,700 for one med/sm crate and was billed nearly $500 for "insurance" on the day it was sitting in the NY port. Figure that one out.

Bluefin, you point out an important issue. Prices do seem inflated. They seem to have skyrocketed in recent years. On the other hand I have to say that if you are being victimized, then it seems to me you and I are in the same boat, that at least we are both being victimized to the same extent. Bill

I guess I got a real steal, I paid $1400 for shipping and customs from Namibia to Michigan. One crate with 5 skins and 9 skulls.

Where I got screwed was when the tannery in Michigan then charged me another $300 to ship the non-skin items to my doorstep. I should have had everything shipped straight to me.

Flora & Fauna handled my Cape buff from Zimbabwe back in 1993. I visited their office in NYC (port of entry) and was shown around. They were totally helpful and reassuring about handling everything and sending my buff on to a PA taxidermist. I cannot say enough good things about Flora and Fauna. Glad to see that one current poster also feels as I do about them. They were great then back in '93 and apparently still are.
