Why not boxers in Africa?

boom stickWhy not boxers in Africa?
I say go like the natives... Make a loin cloth out of some old real tree cammo.
When you get the buff you can turn the scrotum and leather thong into a junk purse to use under your loin cloth for the next hunt to prevent your kiwi's from dangling too low.

surestrikeAre you guys really talking about your safari panties.... REALLY!??

Best of both worlds - Columbia Snake River Water Shorts with a "mesh brief". Lots of pockets, light weight and quick drying, durable, a bit longer than your PH's shorts, and available in Savannah Flax (brown), or Jungle Tank (olive). Can be worn days between washes if so desired.
All packed (carry on of course) and ready to go!

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.

Aaron,
I'm not familiar with beyond clothing. I'm somewhat of a gear junky (I think you have to be if you're serious about hunting up here), so I'll check them out. I'm familiar with Otte Gear. Everyone is crazy about the stormfront from Sitka. It's good gear, but I like the Otte better. The cuts are much more generous, shoulders much more roomy, and their hoods are recessed which I like. I have Helly Hanson for my basic all around rain gear, but I'm looking for something for a more techniqual rain gear. Otte is on my short list. You should check out Barney's Sports Chalet. I'm good friends with the owner Bob Hodson. He does SCI and DSC as well as some of the sheep shows. Check him out if you haven't already. He's out of Anchorage and quite frankly runs one of the foremost sheep hunting/wilderness hunting gear stores in the country. He gets free write ups in Hunting Fool on a regular basis as the go to guy. Everything he sells is top notch. He sells Sitka, Otte, Westcomb, Mountain Hardware, Helly Hanson, Sport Hill, Mammut, Lowa, Scarpa, Hilleberg, MSR, Integral Designs, Sea Line, Sea to Summit, Watershed, and a number of products he designed himself and is made for him. His bombshelter tents and external frame packs are ledgendary in Alaska with guides. Definitely check out his Brooks Range pant and coat. They are by far the best outer insulated top and bottom on the market today. For any cold weather hunt that's glassing intensive or hunt where a mountain top sleep over is posible it is a must. Check out the Westcomb Syncro pant as well. It's the ultimate wilderness light weight hunting pant. I was wearing a pair last weekend on my grizzly hunt.
The store website isn't the best, but it give you some idea of some of their big sellers.

Cazador humildeMost entertaining thread in months. I have to agree with the "free-er" thinkers here - if you've ever done serious yard work in south Texas in August, there's only one way to do it - long pants and nuthin' underneath. 'Makes major difference in keeping cool.
I've never tried Under Armour, but I do have some Exofficio briefs. For all except the coolest months, it's like tying a garbage bag around your crotch.
There are some things in life that a man has to figure out on his own. I hope I don't have to put off my next safari until I figure out what kind of "drawers" I'm gonna wear.

jetdrvrForgoing underwear in the tropics ain't a bad idea. I lived in Miami for 36 years and we have hot, damp summers. I always went without for the summer mnonths. Worked for me.

Milo ShanghaiAlways Commando, a dab of Johnson's baby powder here and there and Loctite superglue for cuts. The powder also comes in handy for checking the wind as I keep some in an old, soft plastic salt shaker from a transport cafe (truck-stop).
We had a field test involving a 50 mile tab across rough country in 19 hours. Most of us went "free" under the olive-greens but one chap decided it would be a good idea to smear his working parts with Vaseline. After five miles he was suffering and removed as much of the gunk as possible but by the end he was still in bits. This was in 1984 but the pain on his face delivered a lesson never forgotten.
BTW, on a related subject, if you can find some long crotch (deep fall) olive green Army surplus jungle trousers buy as many as you can.

NakihunterDown under we get great men's undies (just like Under Armour) but under the Elle McPherson brand!!
Having lived in very humid & hot parts of India for 35 years, I never go anywhere without anti-fungal cream and Chloramphenicol ointment (antibiotic that is particularly effective against anaerobes). I also carry some potassium permanganate crystals in a little bottle just in case. These have come in very useful on many hunting trips in deep rough bush country that we flew into by helicopter.

I have never tried it.

I never had another problem (powder too, great for keeping dry).

It's to keep the most tender portions of one's body from developing really uncomfortable sores. I can't imagine doing a thirty mile ride in July wearing boxers or briefs.
When I'm hunting in a warm climate I like baggy pants for the coolness. But with my skinny legs inside them, if I didn't wear compression shorts made of some synthetic, I probably could hunt one day only.
Boxer briefs in a bicycle short material (Lycra?) is ideal. I switched to boxer briefs just for regular wearing about 3 years ago, and keep the bicycle briefs for days of heavy exertion, and haven't had chafing since. And I was one who suffered regularly (must be from having a package too large for the storage area)

Oh, and ordinary zinc based baby cream is a bonus (heck, it works for diaper rash, so it has to work for this).
And those shorts with the mesh crotch chafed me the worst of anything.

Been to Barney's, great store!! The Beyond Clothing is awesome, all types as you will see on the site, even for COLD weather, and much better than wool!! Wind proof, lots of options, including cold weather gear, zip down legs if it gets warm, reinforcements, etc. All I ever use in Alaska, Canada, Colorado, in the snow, wind, etc, etc. Hardly ever even put longs on under it, even when its really cold.

RVL IIII wear Under Armour brand tshirt and underwear on a daily basis, the tshirt is under my armor literally (policy body armor) I will not wear a vest w/out it any more. The old UA was not very good...though it was made in the USA....go figure.
Commando has it's time and place too.
