I have a friend who has waited all his life to shoot a buffalo; 'never been to Africa. He's turning 70, he wants to go next year, and he wants me to go with him.

I've been to Zim 4 times and I'd really like to spend some time in another country in southern Africa.

What other country would have good buffalo hunting for roughly the same value(yeah, I mean price) as Zim? Mozambique?

All suggestions appreciated.

ZAMBIA, go ZAMBIA. I went buffalo hunting there with KWALATA, booked thru WES HIXON, had so much fun,I am going back there. I could have gotten a buffalo on the first hour of the first morning, 15 min from camp. Good food, good staff. 7 day 2 on 1 hunt is 9000, plus you can get a hippo, croc for trophy fee only with your hunt.

Look for a late season deal (left over quota) and you could probably take a 2x1 in Moz reasonably. There are some giant Hippo and Croc's there as well. Another good option would be Tanzania. Again on the late season.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

in my humble opinion: Tanzania is still your best bet for big buffalo in classic wild, safari setting..........and you can each shoot two! beer

If you are inclined to hunt wild Africa and can afford Tanzania by all means Adam Clements and his Bundu Safaris Operation 5 star and huge buffalo. If that is not in your means or interest then without question Spear Safaris in South Africa. They too have huge buffalo and Ernest Dyason is tops and also 5 star.

Good Hunting

Make sure you know what you are doing in Moz ... do you really want to ride around on an Argo amphibious vehicle and shoot your buffalo in a swamp? Not all areas in Moz, but delta is like this.

I wouldn't hunt buff in RSA ... unless you want to shoot a buffalo with a first and last name.

With some outfitters in Tanzania, you can book a double buff hunt and split the bag. That brings to the cost to within reason. Zambia would be the other option ... but if you add other things to the hunt, the price goes up fast.
