I recently was referred to this site when telling someone I would like to hunt Africa within the next couple of years. Its the most informative site for reloading the 300 RUM I've found. I purchased a 375 RUM last year with Africa in mind, but have not shot or scoped it yet. Time off will not be a problem and I would like to have an opportunity to shoot the cats and buffalo when there. This is my first probe and any suggestions will be appreciated, Ray

Welcome aboard Flaggman! You've come to the right place to prepare. I'd suggest you do a couple of things. First, just hang out here and you'll learn alot. Then, talk with a couple of booking agents. I can personally recommend Wendell Reich ( www.huntersquest.com ), John Barth ( www.bigbuffalo.com ) and Mark Young ( www.safaritrackers.com ). Each will give you an education and do a good job. Between them, they represent some of the most experienced and succesful safari operators in the business. Third, I'd make sure to go to either the Dallas Safari Club Convention or the Safari Club International Convention next January. Here you will meet the actual outfitters and professional hunters and get a feel for how things work. Good luck and have fun. The planning and anticipation are half the fun. welcome flaggman, you will find a wealth of experience out here , i agree with sbt, you should go to the dallas or reno safari show where you will meet a bunch of hunters, phs, hear some facts first hand and get some great ideas on what it takes to hunt ... hunting africa is a priveledge, get good references and ask the guys here what they think before you make any decisions ..you wont go wrong .. welcome again , "The greatest threat to our wildlife is the thought that someone else will save it” www.facebook.com/ivancartersafrica www.ivancarterwca.org www.ivancarter.com ivan@ivancarter.com

Everyone starts from zero. I took my first safari Sept.2006, I highly recommend this site for a world of information regarding everything African. I will also give Wendell Reich another plug he is a knowledgeable and patient hunting consultant. He will talk to you about your expectations and make suggestions accordingly. He values his reputation and for that reason you will soon realize, you can depend on what he says. My one piece of advice about using the site would be to do a seach before you ask a question.

Lots of good articles concerning hunting in Africa. You'll find info on what to expect on travel, guns/reloading and what's available and where to find it. You'll also find some outstanding senses of humor here as well. Welcome to AR, Flaggman. I found this site after I returned home from my second trip to Africa, and yes there is a wealth of information and experience here. I too purchased a .375 RUM for Cape Buffalo. It worked GREAT with 300 gr Barnes TSX handloads. I put a custom laminated stock on mine. I pillar and glass bedded the action and barrel, and free floated the barrel. I also checkered the stock, and installed a mechanical recoil reducer in the stock. I also had a KDF muzzle brake installed. This dramatically tames the recoil. My .375 RUM is also topped with a 2-7x Leupold. I'm currently working up a loads with 260 gr Accubonds for Kudu and Eland, and 300 gr solids for Grysbuck that I'll be hunting in the Southern Cape in September. NRA Endowment Life Member
