Earlier today, I was searching for a hunting related documentary or movie on Netflix and stumbled upon a documentary entitled 'The Women Who Kill Lions'.

Out of lock-down boredom, I decided to watch the 45 minute documentary.

Eish! My worse fears were quickly realized.

In my opinion (and you know what people say about opinions), the documentary had an anti-hunting agenda.

Why do hunters agree to participate in such documentaries knowing or suspecting that the producers probably have an anti-hunting agenda?

Do they participate for fame or fortune?

Do they enjoy being provocative or controversial?

Do they enjoy the attention or death threats?

Please carry on my friends. coffee

I would be willing to bet that they believe that the resulting film will be positive.

They believe this for two reasons: First, the producers lead them to believe that it is going to be an honest and fair representation of hunting, and second, the people involved are so excited to grab their 15 minutes of fame that they are blind to any warning signs.

Honestly the producers of this garbage are experts at getting people to play along. Look at all the Reality TV footage that makes people look like idiots-those people had to sign off on it.

I had to take a film class to for to transfer my Wyoming teaching credential to Alaska. The other people taking this class were also certified teachers, all college graduates, most with advanced degrees, lots of life experience, etc.

When we had to critique documentary films I was shocked and appalled at how many of these people would comment that a documentary was, "very fair and didn't seem to have any agenda". Others would chime in, "the film showed both sides of the issue fairly".

And these are your fellow Americans! They are allowed to vote, raise children, teach YOUR children, etc.

All of the films had an agenda, all of the films portrayed things in the way that the filmmakers saw fit, but until this was pointed out to these people they couldn't see it.

Think of it this way: If I asked you to sit and talk to me about the virtues of hunting for and hour, and then I edited and used two minutes of this conversation, including using your quotes out of context and possibly adding misleading context, I could make the resulting two minute snippet look like anything that I wanted it to.

This is why smart people will only agree to be interviewed on controversial subjects if the filmmaker/reporter agrees to show the interview in its entirety. And filmmakers/authors will almost never agree to such a clause because they don't actually want your opinions, they want footage so that they can use it to their benefit.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

The documentary title "The Women Who Kill Lions" was a red alert immediately for me. Without even seeing the documentary that title gives a pretty clear indication of the bias.
Unfortunately the titling of documentaries and movies generally always comes once the filming is wrapped, in fact many just have working titles often bearing no relation to the final title chosen before release.
Anyone participating in this sort of thing give up their right of reply and are at the mercy of those on the cutting floor.

I have been asked, repeatedly, by different media outlets, for an interview.

I have said yes.

I will also make my own copy of the whole interview.

And I do the final edit.

These are my conditions.

No one agreed!

Saeed, I love it. I'll remember that. You taught me something. No one asks me about hunting , but on other topics. Love your response. Take it or leave it.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
