Has anyone else seen the AR ad in the latest African Hunter? I laughed like hell when I saw it last night. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Terry Pratchett. | ||

Have you seen it? It's not your typical advertisement. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Terry Pratchett. | |||

Is anything on AR typical? Yes, I commented on the ad earlier here another post a couple of weeks back. It definitely sets the record straight as to what you can experience on AR! | |||

I liked the one that had the picture of the baboon named Ganyana from a couple issues ago. | |||

This advert shows two dung beetle rolling along with a piece of elephant dung. The caption says: Something For Everyone... ...even Bullshit Artists! I think that really summs it up very accurately of what goes on here. | |||

Do you think the publishers would mind someone posting a scan of that ad? I'd love to see it. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend. | |||

If one dung beetle twists his ball of dung faster than another, will it roll further? SCI Life Member DSC Life Member | |||

If both balls are the same diameter and weight (therefore they have the same Sectional Density) the one that is twisted faster will roll further. In asking the question, it proves you have not been paying attention. | |||

Let us see how long it takes for someone to point out that all balls, made from the same material will have the same Sd, regardless of their diameters. | |||

This actually reminds me of the old Shooter forum. There was a man who went hunting plains game in South Africa, then came back and started telling all and sundery HOW Africa should be hunted. He had become an instart expert! We seem to have a few of his kind here, and they tend to get rather shirty when some disagrees with them. There is really no hard and fast rules to hunt Africa. One should hunt it the way HE enjoys it. And pay scant attention to the "experts" | |||

It's not only the newbies and Africa one-timers (like myself), it's also the vets around here who hold themselves up to be the final word on how things should be done. It's no different anywhere else. That's life. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ | |||

Not only hunting, but any endevor. A prime example of this behavior can be found in the Double Rifles Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA | |||

JBoutfishn, I went back and read that whole thread, and mostly it is simply a tread about a guy with a new rifle haveing some fun working up some very good loads for it,and asking some real questions. The only other thing I saw was, a couple of guys that simply can't get along, with one being as opinionated as the other, something that most of us are guilty of at times. Both are really good guys, they just have a presonality conflict, that will not allow them to stay on the same string, long, without confornting each other! I agree 100%, on the lack of civility, and your take on the add in African Hunter as well, it was perfect! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith | |||

Gerrard, Clearly it is you who have not been swayed by the laws of fisics. Everyone knows that it is the ball with the secional density advantage that will roll faster and straighter, Off course both are of the correct historic round nose configuration. Free 500grains | |||

JPK, This is the problem with balls. In order for it to have a nose, it must have a front. How do you tell which side of a ball is front? | |||

Gerard, Surely you understand? It doesn't matter! NO barrel twist issues! 'Cause tumbling isn't a problem! Alf's posts, detailing penetration, permanent and temporary wound channels et al, with steel round balls at 47,000,000fps must have convinced you. No? The dungbeetle or "scarab" was sacred in Ancient Egypt. The rolling of the dung ball by a scarab symbolised the rolling of the sun across the heavens and was associated with Ra, the sun god. The begining, noon and ending of the day. So one could argue, pushing bullshit, camelshit or elephant shit is an ancient and holy tradition in Africa. | |||

------------------------- Not only those traditions, Nitrox but in the oilfield, too. Try setting up a new operation in Mozambique, for instance, and dealing with the customer, SASOL. Questions you get often sound like - "how you gonna move and spot all this schitt, guy",? Drill rigs and equipment are heavy but a turd is a turd, roll with it. Thus the moniker - "Dungbeetle". Later given as an honorary status after the job was done. Good gas field, too. BP has it now, I think. Don't know if development was ever completed there, lots of questions on the pipeline, land or sub-sea. Jeez, gang, give a turd hustler a break, eh? It's honorable. No disclaimer on the bullschitt thing. DB | |||

Dungbeetle, Very funny. Isn't a dungball in the sea known as a "blind mullet" fish. Blind fish that doesn't swim, but floats on the surface and floats with the current. | |||
