UPDATE - Less than 48 hours - Back home
Our flight is scheduled to depart DFW in less than 48 hours. I'm all packed and pumped.

Hopefully I will have photos and a story to post upon return.

Before then you can check out my progress at Hunting in Africa's "This Safari" page. Mine will start on May 15th.

Starting out in Free State going for Springbok and Black Wildebeest.

Wish me luck.

Good luck Charles-Shoot often and shoot straight!

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Thanks everybody. I'm at 26 hours and counting. Now if we don't get stuck over there due to ash or a BA attendant strike. Well maybe a couple extra days would be okay. Smiler

Sure wish American flew direct to Johannesburg. Two long flights with a long layover in between isn't the best way to start a safari. I keep reminding myself that I'm not paying for the tickets and I am flying first class. There are worse things than laying over in British Airways Concorde lounge sipping drinks and playing on the computer.

Charles,

Good luck on your hunt. I agree that the BA lounge is excellent. When I fly through London being able to get a shower, eat something not sitting on a seat back tray and having a nice drink just takes the sting out of the travel and virtually eliminates jet lag. Enjoy your adventure.

Time drags while waiting to go and flies while there. We are back home now. I will write a hunting report as soon as I recover from the "emergencies" that arose while I was away.

Saw the daily progress on Pieter's website. The "This Safari" tab is a nice feature. Looks like you guys had a good hunt.

That pig is a whopper.

Pieter is great fun and he is an excellent hunter too.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
