Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

JefffiveWell, his nose isn't black and I don't see any scars on his face from defending a pride, so I think he's immature, and that mane is too full for a wild griffon so I'm betting he's canned...

Jeff,
You're wrong. There's no wayyou'd get those wings to fold up and fit into a can!

While we're being daft........ what opinions do our members have about how the Lion in the link below is standing?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maiwand_Lion
20 January 2009, 16:19
shakariThe reason I ask is that this statue is famous in the area for being an incredibly ugly super mega bugly stuff up and I'm curious to know what others think of the statue in general and the stance in particular. - I note that Wikipedia claim the gait is that of a domestic cat......... and I also wonder what forum members think of that statement.

Peter"Rumours persist that Simonds committed suicide on learning that the lion's gait was incorrectly that of a domestic cat. In fact, he made careful observations on lions and the stance was anatomically correct despite various African ex-pats disagreeing."
He also did not commit suicide!
So, what do African ex-pats say? My opinion (FWIW) is that it is fairly typical of Victorian era art, and, I'm glad I was not at Maiwand!!

PalmerMrlexma,
If I remember correctly it is in the Campo Manin (Venice) and my guess is that it is between 125 and 140 years old - revise that to 125 to 150 years give or take a few.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Does this mean that I am number one at aging lions on this forum?

In my opinion, the two things I see that strike me as wrong, and the tail is not typical of a lion who is growling at something, and the muscle structure is out of whack! Other than that, I see nothing so wrong!

Allen, you are correct!
He is definitely shootable.
Wingshooting a lion can be difficult, however!

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I set that picture as my background on my computer early this afternoon. Every time I walk past it I get a chuckle. Good one!

shakariI have a hunting buddy who has one of the funniest sense of humours I've ever come across and he had his Lion set up in almost that exact position because that's the position the Lion was in when my buddy shot him!
