I've never been to Africa, but it sure looks like there are quite a variety of "tasty critters"
running around. Which game animal is regarded as the best table fare.

Most all of it is outstanding. Most all the plains game is better than our whitetail or mule deer.

So far I've enjoyed Lion the most.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I would have to vote for Eland as being some of the tastiest game meat.

Hey, Ron. Funny you should say that. I was thinking that mountain lion was really tasty. I guess the Chinese restaurants here in the USA don't have it all that far off, do they.

We are revisiting this again but I like food and next to eating it I like talking about it. Tommie chops as Ruark described maybe one of greatest delicacies available at least in my experience. You can take them right from the Thompson's warm carcass you shot that day and into the frying pan. Yum Yum!!!

All the African game I've eaten has been quite good including things that most westerners would probably not consider eating like elephant, hippo, lion and leopard. The leopard was particularly good being second only to the Tommie.

Having dinned on eland, blesbuck, gemsbuck, kudu, springbuck, free range cow, and free range chicken. My PH grilled the inner loins of all the plains game we took we were ask to Id each meat having tasted it at least once before. My wife and I were wrong on all accounts. when asked what meat was best of all. We both pointed to the new addition that we had not eaten before, It was Zebra. It was mild, fine textered and a little sweet. I thought it was the Eland which was my second choice.

I am not an African game hunter and probably will never be able to afford it so I have no clue on the rules. What are the rules on bringing or importing some of that meat back to the United States?

No African meat can be brought back into the US. USDA regulations. Not even Biltong (jerky). Yes, Eland is the best, followed by Chicken fried Kudu steaks.

Eland is absolutely incredible. One of the only game meats with marbling in the meat. Very tender with a little bit of a sweet taste. Absolutely NO gamey taste whatsoever. clap

Tried a variety of plains game on my Zimbabwe trip and thought the zebra was best. Eland and giraffe (I was a bit surprised) were very good as well. None of it was "bad" and a great experience.
