375 H&H.......why? Thats where it deserves to be. I myself prefer larger calibers so I would probably take the 338 RUM or the 300 RUM as the thrid. If the recoil dosent bother you then there is no reason not to take rifles from the larger end of your choices. YOu have too many choices. I sold everything that was not a .375 H&H or a .300 WM for myself. (and I am thinking of selling the .300)

For reasons that I can't quite fathom, I don't believe you can take three rifles into Tanz. I don't know whether it is the airlines or Tanz, but you will be limited to two per person. If I were able to take three, in addition to the 470, I'd take my 9.3x62 and a 300 magnum. For small critters, I make up about 10 fmj loads for the 470 that were very light loads. Kudude

What's the hunt for? Assuming it's for plains game and Buf, I'd go with the .404 Jeff and the .375 H&H. Out my own availables, I'd take a .416 Rigby (and a .375 H&H if I was allowed three). Gerry, The 375 H&H and the 300 Win Mag. If it was me doing it I might just take the 375 with some 300 gr TSX and no worry about the other two. Mark MARK H. it was just curiosity on my part just to see what many would choose. When you have a bunch of calibers its kind of fun to switch around and taking 3 guns is probably more of a pain than its worth but it is nice to see different guns perform.Mark is kind of right just bring one but just fun to think about it

If you can only take 2, I would take the 470 double and either the 375 H&H or the 9,3x62, whichever one of the rifles I liked the best. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

From those choices, I'd take 375 and 300 Win Mag. If something went wrong with any one of the 3 you'd have another rifle suitable for the job. Caleb

.375 H&H and .300 WBY. For the longer scoped shots for Buffalo the .375 is great and could be used if something happened to the 470. The 300 WBY would be great for plains game and gives you plenty for long range shooting. Also the .375 could be used for PG if something happened to the .300 WBY.

I would take the 375H&H as a backup to the 470, and to use on large plains game and thin skinned dangerous game. I would take the 7x57 for smaller game, and just for fun. But I really wouldn't take three rifles. I would just take the 470 and the 375H&H

404 and 338. 404 scoped for a longer shot on the Lion or Buffalo. Do not want to be handicapped by the short range of an unscoped double or the underpowered 375 on a longer shot on a Buffalo or Lion. I want some punch at longer range that the 375 can't deliver. 338 - This round is sufficient for any PG animal, and works for Buffalo in a pinch, should you need it quickly! It shoots flat and is pretty close to a 375 in energy.

The .375 and 7x57 would round it off...but I would only take one or the other..Hauling 3 guns around in airports is for the first time hunter and its a pain in the butt...These days I try and take only one gun. I hunted in Tanzania in 2007 for 21-days and decided to take just 2 guns. It's really tough to make the airline weight reguirments with 2 guns & ammo let alone 3 guns & ammo (those big caliber rounds add up fast). Plus, most airlines only let you put 2 guns in one case. I had just purchased a 470NE the year before and I really wanted to take it and use it, but it stayed at home. I took a 416 Rigby and a 300 Mag. We actually ended up using the 300 Mag more than the 416 Rigby and I had a hunting buddy with me who borrowed my 300 Mag to take 3 of his 7 animals (he took a 375H&H and a 416 Rem). If I was going to take my 470NE then I would pair it with a 375H&H. If I was going to take a third gun (it would be a 300Mag), then I would have to leave my wife at home, because she takes too much shit. However with her along, I can double the amount of ammo I can take. We talked to two other hunters when we changed camps and they were also doing a 2x1 21-day hunt. They each brought 1 gun and they both were shooting 416 Rigbys. My advise to you is to factor in the weight allowances into your decision process. For example, I know that 22 rounds of 416 Rigby weigh 3 lbs.

.375 H&H and a .300 win mag. You could hunt the planet between those two rifles. Of course I own a .416 Rigby and .338 Lapua after saying that - but I think the .375 and .300 are more conventional choices. oh - I didnt mention a third rifle because it isnt necessary.

Just as was suggested by several guys already, the three guns my son and take when we go are my .470, .375H&H, and .300WM. Even though we could get by with just the two larger calibers, having the 3rd gun is a nice addition and we used that gun extensivly on our last trip and likely will again this year.

In the latest issue of Guns & Ammo Magazine, Craig Boddington has an article about the results of his new survey, I believe, of 107 PH's on the guns that they would recommend for African hunters for a one gun, two gun and three gun battery for Safari. Very interesting, but alot along the lines of some here. He did this to include in his updated version of his book dealing with Safari Rifles. Worth reading in my opinion.
