just had a note from jumbo moore that a spanish client has taken a 84x80# ele in his mozm unit. Big ele!! damn it i sure wish that i could bring one back here from mozm.

We need some pictures from Jumbo! That is an impressive bull indeed.

I think efforts are underway to allow the importation but I do not know where they stand.

Jumbo sent me the following e-mail yesterday ...

"Here are the details of the hunt and tusks:
Client: Ignacio Garcia Sanchis
Operator: Kambako Safaris – www.kambakosafaris.com
Concession: Block B of the Niassa Reserve, Northern Mozambique

PH: Johnnie Johnson
Hunt: 21 day elephant hunt – Elephant shot on day 3
Rifle: Blaser .416

Left Tusk:
Length: 82†– 2.05m
Weight: 80 lbs – 36 kg
Length of nerve: 38 ½ “ = 96 cm

Right Tusk:
Length: 88 ¼ “ – 2.20m
Weight: 84 lbs – 38 kg
Length of nerve: 38 ¼ “ – 96 cm

This is an absolutely awesome elephant which should have weighed in the mid 90’s to a 100 (if it had a reasonable length nerve) but in both tusks they had exceptionally long nerves close to 39†or a metre long which is uncharacteristic of an old bull. Besides the disappointment of the actual end weight, this is a monster elephant and we ALL at Kambako are so proud to have another 80 lb club member."







My comment: The hunter - from Spain - will have no problem with importing the ivory or any other part of the elephant.

I started to respond by denigrating my "little" bull, but then thought about my hunt for my bull and concluded that my trophy is every bit as impressive as this one. In the final analysis, the hunt is the trophy, not the animal.

That said, what a fine bull! thumb

While some mature elephants are bigger than others, there are no "little" ones.

Trophy elephant hunters must be the rarest of all hunters in today's environment...turning down 50 pounders looking for 70 and so on. I'm just a poor tuskless hunter and very happy to do that.

Yeah Sierrabrvo 45, a little off the subject but you could be in Utah hunting those massive 400 + inch Elk we have here. The best place in the US to shoot a large animal, that is if you want to get in the book. To some that is what dreams are made of.

Two years ago, I stayed for a couple of days at George Hallamore's home in Bulawayo. On the wall of his living room, he had a large picture of a spanish client with a huge elephant he and George killed in Mozambique when George worked for Jumbo Moore. I am almost positive that this is the same client. As I remember, Goerge said the bull was in the high 70's. He also said that he had seen bulls there that would go over 80 lbs. Looks like he was right.
