I have just been informed by PH Brent Hein that my client's lion has been officially scored as the biggest lion shot in Zimbabwe this year. Thanks Brent and also to my client who will remain anonymous.

Brent has assured me that he has tied up a similar one for next year so anyone looking for a BIG lion come by and say hello at DSC or SCI our booth numbers are below. Another client also shot a very good lion in Zambia as well this year.

Thanks,

Arjun Reddy

Awesome. What were the skull measurements? Do you have photos of the skull and teeth?

Wow

Any shots of his teeth. I am not asking bc of the age issue. I want to see his weapons of war!

It was shot in the Bubye Valley Conservancy, surely one of the lion hotspots nowadays, just look at that beauty!

Huge lions in BVC and Brent is a great guide. My skull from BVC from a lion killed in a fight measures over 26" and ties 19th largest in RW. Result of great genes in the BVC lions from Etosha and probably some hybrid vigor with mixing of KP stock.

The skull measured 26 9/16. It was shot in the BVC. Client used his 416 rigby. We were checking a leopard bait and started down the road when we saw a lion in the bush, by the time we reversed we saw a second lion the first one took off. This one stood in the road for a moment and then got in to the bush the client and Brent got down and walked a bit along the road and managed to get a shot. He took off before they could fire a second shot.

We got back in to the vehicle and drove down the road to see if we could spot it from on top for better visibility. We spotted him lying dead next to the road, he had gone about 40-50 yards with a near perfect shot.

It was a very exciting hunt with lots of lion sightings even in the day time. One day 2 evening just before dark we were hanging a new bait and were standing around the truck chatting. The tracker who was just about done jumped down from the tree screaming for us to get on the truck. At first I thought it was a joke but the tone of his voice left no doubt something was up. Before we knew it a huge lion came pouring out of the bush and was in front of the bonnet snarling and carrying on. A moment later he was joined by a second monster, also behaving badly!! Fortunately the client was standing next to the passenger side and had jumped in to the cab. The rest of us including Brent had jumped in on the back! Brent hopped off and ran around and got in to the truck as the lions turned their attention to the just hung zebra and started tearing at it. The moment Brent started to reverse the truck one of the lions immediately charged and it looked like he wanted to bite the tire, he was right next to the drivers side door, I was on the back and he came alongside snarling like a bitch all of 4 feet from me. Armed with a half empty bottle of water the thought crossed my mind that I should throw it at him but fortunately I didn't, in hind sight I think that would have got his attention and he would have jumped in to the back of the truck had he looked up!!! With the vehicle lights on, engine noise, dust flying all of us shouting he was not in the least bit scared. Anyway we backed off about 30 yards and he returned to the zebra and we watched them both feed. Decided since it was only day 2 we would leave them be.

Now the way home was past the lions again, Brent told us to hold on and I knew they would come for us, sure as can be as we passed the tree they both came full tilt snarling and carrying on right after the truck. Like village dogs chasing a vehicle. If one of us had fallen out that would have been the end! Brent said it was some of the most aggressive lions he had seen and he has seen a lot in the BVC.

It has been quite a year 4 months spent in 3 countries in Africa and also time in Greenland and Romania. Lot's of memories, mostly fun. Driving down the highway in Benin where it was raining inside and outside of the car. As the roof was rusty it was drizzling in the car Smiler. Spent my birthday sitting up for wild boar in a blind in the Carpathian mountains serenaded by wolves, and the roaring of red stags. And the year coming to an end with clients having shot the no. 2 SCI Nagor Reedbuck and the biggest lion in Zim, not too bad in all I guess.

Confirm you cannot register your Lion with Roland Ward? Is that because it is a fenced game farm?

Fair game, notice I said the lion was killed in a fight at BVC. Hence I would never register it and the shull was given to me. These are no so called high fenced lions. They are very much wild and have been so for many generations in some million acre conservancy. I expect you know the property well. my point was to support that there are big lions in the conservancy and visibly bigger than Kruger of for that bigger than
East Africa. I ve supported some of the lion research, as have many other hunters, in BVC.

I might be wrong but if I recall, RW accepts the data (if submitted) for recording purposes and if one states it was "picked up", would show thus in the register.

Fulvio. You are correct about picked up horns, skull etc, but I did not pick it up but WildCru (Paul) and Blondie collected it. If I recall correctly the widest buffalo horns were picked up.

Well done to you and your Client Arjun. Brent is definitely one of the go to guys in the BVC and the BVC is without doubt the best lion hunting place in the world - my opinion of course. See you in Dallas

tu2 I have hunted the BVC quite a few evenings for hyena, honey badger, wild cat, etc., and I can certainly tell you, through first person experience, that the BVC lions are all out full blown aggressive at night! Especially when you're blowing a predator call! Big Grin Huge congrats Arjun! tu2
