It was a very exciting hunt with lots of lion sightings even in the day time. One day 2 evening just before dark we were hanging a new bait and were standing around the truck chatting. The tracker who was just about done jumped down from the tree screaming for us to get on the truck. At first I thought it was a joke but the tone of his voice left no doubt something was up. Before we knew it a huge lion came pouring out of the bush and was in front of the bonnet snarling and carrying on. A moment later he was joined by a second monster, also behaving badly!! Fortunately the client was standing next to the passenger side and had jumped in to the cab. The rest of us including Brent had jumped in on the back! Brent hopped off and ran around and got in to the truck as the lions turned their attention to the just hung zebra and started tearing at it. The moment Brent started to reverse the truck one of the lions immediately charged and it looked like he wanted to bite the tire, he was right next to the drivers side door, I was on the back and he came alongside snarling like a bitch all of 4 feet from me. Armed with a half empty bottle of water the thought crossed my mind that I should throw it at him but fortunately I didn't, in hind sight I think that would have got his attention and he would have jumped in to the back of the truck had he looked up!!! With the vehicle lights on, engine noise, dust flying all of us shouting he was not in the least bit scared. Anyway we backed off about 30 yards and he returned to the zebra and we watched them both feed. Decided since it was only day 2 we would leave them be.

Now the way home was past the lions again, Brent told us to hold on and I knew they would come for us, sure as can be as we passed the tree they both came full tilt snarling and carrying on right after the truck. Like village dogs chasing a vehicle. If one of us had fallen out that would have been the end! Brent said it was some of the most aggressive lions he had seen and he has seen a lot in the BVC.

It has been quite a year 4 months spent in 3 countries in Africa and also time in Greenland and Romania. Lot's of memories, mostly fun. Driving down the highway in Benin where it was raining inside and outside of the car. As the roof was rusty it was drizzling in the car . Spent my birthday sitting up for wild boar in a blind in the Carpathian mountains serenaded by wolves, and the roaring of red stags. And the year coming to an end with clients having shot the no. 2 SCI Nagor Reedbuck and the biggest lion in Zim, not too bad in all I guess.
