That was posted here a year back or so.

Some folks suggested on the original thread that the animal nearing the end of the video was drugged. I dunno'... It is amazing, though. The human animal can be most impressive!

just a bit indignant about someone who feels the need to run a half-page color ad promoting a video and then having the guts to criticize the rest of us. Read the thread he posted. He has not made any posts (to the best of my knowledge) without his half-page ad. Just a bit too commercial here. That crap belongs in the classifieds is all.

Want to sell something, that is what the classifieds are for. This is self promotion and peddling his wares in a legitimate hunting thread. Coues deer are not in Africa, so the self aggrandizement is inappropriate. No other forum would allow such a tacky commercial.

JMHO, somebody point out the error please.

The chase is signaled by throwing a 3 wood in the direction of the animal?

That African hunting looks easy to me. Just chase the game for a while and they lay down for you. I will try this with lion. They are lazy beasts and should not run far.

DavidW and Jdollar,

whats your point?

The half-page ad speaks for itself, I was mostly curious why a deer hunting video was for sale in the African forum instead of classifieds.
I await an answer from either or you or someone else who can explain that to me.

Rich

By the way, I am working up a similiar sized ad for my niece who is selling Girl Scout Cookies.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Every member has the option of having a signature.

It is HIS choice what he has in that signature. It can a book, video or service that he is offering for sale.

In fact, it is up to us to allow that or not.

And I certainly see no reason why anyone who has a video on offer not to have it in his signature.

Steve Richards,

I was wondering the same thing about that camera man (superman?). It sure would be allot easier running that Kudu into the ground with a chopper. Drop off the bushman, camera man for the kiil? All the rest of the camera shots were cameos not unlike a std hunting video where all the pre shot video is done afterwards and edited.
I never saw the runners breathing very hard. especially towards the end at the kill when the nararator said both hunter and prey were exhausted, the hunter appeared pretty fresh, no sweat, no heavy breathing. I am sure you are going to sweat regardless in the Kalahari.
These indigenous tribes may certainly be capable of these feats but this one appears a bit "staged".
Earlier in the video when the three were working together. No one had a knapsack of any type with a water bottle. That only showed up later when it was a one on one chase.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

No doubt in my mind the whole thing is staged and then cleverly edited.

It's the same story with all the crap that Attenborough churns out mercilessly.

Certainly this was staged for the film. This couldn't be done with a film crew taging along! This was a re-inactment for the film, but the littl Bushmen of the kalahari, have done this for thousands of years.

These little people are an amazing group. Ask any PH who has lived around them and hunted with trackers from their tribe, and they will tell you they seem to be magic, doing things one would not believe! thumb

Geez, I don't check this section for a while, and an ignoramus with no sense of humor crawls out of his hole and implies I'm a liar. Maybe someone crapped in his cereal, and before he realized it, he had eaten enough to get diarrea mouth.

Despite that Shitshooter, I don't plan to turn this thread into another personal pissin' match in this section. There's been enough of them here already, and no one learns anything from them. That's why I never get into them.

So in the sense of humaneness, I'll refrain from making you look like a dingaling; you've already done a bang-up job at that yourself. And by now, after reading all the messages directed at you, you no doubt figured out why. Canuck had it right with his "half-cocked" comment.

The correct spelling of the bolded text is i-g-n-o-r-a-n-t. At least the thread title was quite appropriate in your case. I believe Saeed provided the "clue" and some education to that fact.

BTW, it's a book, not a video.

And I'm glad most of you enjoyed the hunt video. As most of you realized from the get-go, that was my intent with a bit of facetious humor tossed in. I also apologize for getting a bit off track in this message, however. Frowner

I don't understand why so many folks on this site seem so bloody angry all the time. You can have anything you want (tasteful) in your signature line, so why make an issue out of it?

Excellent bit of video...For those of you that think the Kudu bull was drugged, you obviously have never seen qudrapeds go down from prolonged exertion. That's what it looks like - they suddenly just drop and that's it. I've seen this with horses, deer and cattle. I would think that certain sections of the tape were -re-creates -so what. As for the cameraman, no doubt there was a support vehicle a few clicks back and a group of spotters from the tribe that signaled when it was time to move in for the coup-de-gras.

Really great piece! I'da tried that in my younger days when I made my living largely as an endurance athlete! Totally doable IMHO for the physically gifted and the one who, pardon the pun, is gifted with "persistence"!

There is no doubt that it (the hunt) is doable.I have read accounts of such hunts written by one of the Blackbeards of Botswana.

I just think the video is crap, melodramatic crap. Smiler

Is it somewhat staged? Undoubtedly.
Are the San Bushmen to be admired? Without a doubt.
I don't think their holding their hands out to the side while tracking, similiar to some Evangelicals in church, was put-on. Their hunting is religious and we could all do with a little dose of that in our hunting pursuits.

i followed a San tracker across the Kalahari for 12 miles(according to the GPS) following a wounded gemsbok AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. he did walk slower in deference to a middle age white guy but once on the trail(tracks only- basically no blood), he just kept going. i was convinced we would never see the bull again but my PH assured me that if i could stay with the tracker, we would get the animal. i cussed myself for a poor first shot but the pleasure of watching that Bushman work was worth the effort.

I shot a kudu and watched my arrow pass through just behind the shoulder. Thinking the animal would be dead in seconds we took up the trail right away. Soon we came to a spot and the bushman tracker stopped and looked it over for a minute and said," the arrow exited too far back to get both lungs. This is where the kudu laid down. He heard as we approached and got up and left running in this direction."

He walked back to the truck and called in two more trackers and we again got on the trail. We started before noon and it was late afternoon, almost too dark for good photos when we ran the thing down.

Like JD said above, I am sure they were slowed having to wait for me , but we traveled at a fast walk or a slow steady trot the whole time. When we actually caught the kudu he tried to run but his last sprint was only about fifty yards and then he was done. I walked up and finished him.

Unlike in this video, the little bushman laughed and whooped it up when the animal was finally brought down.Other than that it was very similar to how this took place, even down to the way they held their hands as they followed the track.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!
