Gentlemen:

I will be with my father for the Thanksgiving holiday. I will be in Pennsylvania and we have decided to take the double rifles and other big bores to the range early on Thanksgiving morning.

We will meet at Route 100 South Fogelsville, Pa..8am at the Starlite diner across the street from Holiday Inn for breakfast then range time 8 miles away.

If anyone is interested in shooting a .577 NE double and a .500 NE double, you are more than welcome to come and meet up with us.

Smiler Hi Paul, it's very good that you are able to get together with your dad for Thanksgiving!

You and he have been very generous with your rifles and I for one have benefitted from that generosity.

I can't hook up on this shoot but hope you have fun and also wish you and yours a great holiday!

Your gracious offer is sooooooooooo tempting. If I was even remotely close to them I could write it off as a visit with my dad's family in Easton but alas, I'd have serious "family issues" hear at home if I went north that day. Thanks for asking though, maybe another time?

I enjoyed the heck out of the last elephant shoot with your dad, Jack, Chris(?), and Mike. My folks are in town and I'll see if my dad would be willing to come on out -- if he is, it'll be three generations of us out there. My son's in love with my CZ .416 Rigby and we just loaded up 40 rounds.

The range is a Penn. State Property range.

Public access, it has served this group of north eastern big bore rifle shooters very well several times now.

I'll be happy to be there -- if anyone's interested, I'll bring my evil caliber with Garretts -- not an elephant gun, but the most recoil I've got (375s are much nicer to shoot.)

i miss my dad and going to the range, enjoy every moment of it. sisce i read your post I have been sitting here for a long while thinking of all the times, places and different guns we shot together, i remember the last time too, i knew it was going to be the last time, he shot 5 shots with a ruger 10/22 @ 25 yards from a benchrest that looked like a 30 caliber hole, he could barly see or walk how the hell he did that i'll never know, i still have that target somewhere in a gun case.

back then we didnt have alot of $$, enough to have a couple nice guns $400-$500 ones 20 years ago, now I can buy ANY double i want or a matched pair etc and drive a Rolls Royce to the range, but I dont have any family. It flip floped on me, family and $$$. And other than having both, i'd rather have my mom and dad 1000000000times more. wow this this thread brought some nice memories for me, thanks

sorry about the spelling,
I missed that class.

Wow, lots of nice weapons spread out on that army blanket.
Although I'd like to see about 4" of recoil pad on some of those heavy thumpers!!

Where does one buy a rhino target like that in eastern PA?

Ooooo...if I didn't have some other commitments on Thanksgiving, I would make the ride up there to shoot with you guys. I've always wanted to try some of the big bores, the biggest I have is a .300! I might have to change that this summer when I trade it in, though...Smiler

It's cool to see the response, even if it is "I would love to make it, but..."

I can tell you this: I have yet to get together with this group, but my dad has gone each time and LOVES every second of it.

I know it is tough to get together for a shoot on the country's biggest holiday, but I wanted to at least extend the invitation.

LV Eric, I appreciate your post and feel lucky to continue to share memorable moments with my dad - he's the ugly one in the photo above.

Thanks for the perspective Eric. I am still family rich and money poor ('ish, I guess..my stuff is dry and I ain't starvin!), but sometimes its pretty easy to take the family part for granted.

Justin:

Yeah, just what Jack said.

My old man, Doc52, was also born in Monessen - my great-grandmother is still alive and still lives there, as do numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

For some reason (I have no idea why), Doc has some unique photos or videos as his avatar. Right now it is some guy in boxer shorts doing some type of gay karate. Thus the reason of my post.

It was not directed at you, and I'm sorry if you thought it was.

But just to recap, here are some of the other avatar photos doc has used in the past:

Doc52 is GOOD COMPANY and a GOOD SPORT.

I have not yet met 577NE in person, but he helped me hook up with his dad [Doc52] and shoot 500NE and 577NE.

He did not know me, and he was generous with info and rifles, as is his dad.
