Looking to book a trip next year with the primary focus being a Vaal Rhebok.

Who are the outfitters to look at in the Eastern Cape who have good numbers?

Thanks
Guy

Eastern Cape NOT the best place.

Biggest and best Valies are in the Western Cape from Hermanus to Riversdal.

They occur here naturaly and are in good numbers with VERY VERY good trophy quality. The record books speak for itself.

I hunt about 20,000acres of farm land in this area and have a villa by the sea that we stay in.

My email is below if you would like a quote Sir.

Western Cape is good. Healthy numbers and good trophies but a little pricey. KZN also good in the drakensberg and you can combine it with a lot of other hunts. Eastern Cape, especially around tarkastad are full up with them an the trophy quality is excellent. For some reason they seem a bit more skittish than the other two areas. Go have fun. Without a doubt the most rewarding hunt in SA!

Also got these earlier in the year:

There are many areas to pick from but the Jamestown, Dordrecht areas I hunt in the EC also produces good specimens.

A hard but very rewarding hunt!

This is my last Vaalie I guided personally. This was taken behind the lodge, and we havent taken one since, so there should be 1 or 2 rams up there.

This is a great challenging hunt with shots of up to 350-400 yds so practice.

Look at the record books where the top Valies were taken. Talking above 10" My friend Peter not smiling much, as this was last day stuff and the Valie taken in the high mountain!

This was taken in this past November:

A 9"er from the East Cape taken with Russell Lovemore of Safari Trails International. I have to say it is one of the sportiest hunts I have ever done on the Dark Continent!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I cannot agree more. I just love hunting them. Down in the Western Cape they love the wheat and barley fields. They can see miles away and are very skitish. This ram is very old and full of character, just the type of trophy my good friend Russ would want his client to take!

Well done!

Every now and again Tarka produces 10" inchers....But they are shot at a lot. What I love about the Western Cape Valies is that there is not a BIG hunting culture there with the farmers. In 20,000acres we only tak 2-3 rams per year. Yes they are a bit pricey, but not much more so than other Valies in S.A. after they were added to the TOPS listing. I promise you, serious trophy hunters do not mind $200.00 up or down on trophy fees. They want a fair deal, good hunt, and TOP trophy for their money.

A suggestion, look at RW book of records, There was an article in the African Outfitter a couple of years ago on Valies. The author mentioned something like 5 of the Top 10 coming from a small area between Riversdal and Hermanus!

I get carried away a bit with them, but that's just me, I love hunting them. They are totaly free roaming, and we hunt them on the fields or the big mountain slopes. Tag's can be a bit of an issue to get, but if booked well in advance, are taken care of easily.

Best PG hunt there is!
Combines African hunting with a touch of mountain game hunting. I loved it.

I took a ram in 2010 in the northern EC that was a shade over 10".

I want to do it again.. Next time will be in the WC to see some new country and try for another big ram.

Great rams, guys. tu2

I hunted vaalie with Russell Lovemore in 2006. Great experience! We shot one in Tarkastad. I came back from another hunt with him a couple of months ago. Among other game we hunted bontebok in the Baviaans Conservancy. What a fantastic place to be! And he said there were lot's of vaal rheboks in those mountains as well. But they're not easy. Long shots required Smiler

If you are looking for an exceptional trophy, the western cape is definitely the spot, however to hunt a vaalie in its typical mountain terrain I would definitely go for the eastern cape mountains.

Hunting vaalies high in the Eastern Cape mountains is an experience you'll remember forever. The added bonus of the Eastern Cape is that a relatively large variety of other species are available to hunt there as well.
