A great article written by one of our own regarding two different hunts in Russia for brown bear. Well done! Both for capturing the culture and the mea culpa on who is responsible for pulling the trigger! Nice redemption bear...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

I really enjoyed it as well, and as it's my last magazine from them as I'm letting my membership expire the timing couldn't have been better. Congrats again Todd!!!!

Thanks!

I just got my mag; I wonder why it took so long.

Stories like this are why I joined SCI in the first place. Great story by a "normal" hunter. The "lesson learned" part helps guys who want to make this hunt. If this was an industry sponsored hunt we would have read about the scope, the guns, the rifle, seen some decals, but not learned an important lesson because the 7 foot bear would have been photographed using a 17 mm lens with the writer sitting 10 feet behind the bear...there would have been no second hunt, because the sponsors would have expected a story on the first one.

Thanks for putting in the time to write it and share it with us.

I will have to read that article. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I rarely read these mags anymore. Not just SCI, but DSC and others as well. I get enough "hunting" in my life that I don't usually read about it as well.
