I had a few long phone conversations with Allen.

I wish I could have met him in person as we seemed to get along fine.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

As a side note he hunted with Mark Sullivan, and had nothing but great things to say about him.

He is in one of Marks videos. His 458 went belly up, and he was forced to shoot a cape buff with his 300 Win Mag. It was a bang flop.

He may have shot a second buff with the 300 as well I cannot remember.

He was avid "Bolt Rifle Trash", and many of our conversations centered on Bolt vs Double. Big Grin

He gave me another later DVD of him hunting with Sullivan on a second trip. He made a great shot on a running buff. One shot and it dropped like it was pole-axed. When we spoke about it he was very matter-of-fact about it all.

I am saddened to hear of his passing. Although we never met, I enjoyed his posts here on AR. He had a passion for hunting and quality guns that was special. When he left AR we lost an important contributor and the hunting world has now lost a good man May god provide strength to his family!

I was told in confidence quite some time ago, that Allen was stricken with terminal CA and was dying. While I never met him in person, I avidly read every post he made here and on 24Hr. and always enjoyed his wealth of knowledge and personal integrity.

I was actually trying to obtain his phone no. to talk when I was told of his tribulations. He always impressed me as a fine man who knew fine guns and his advice on such was based on more field experience than most ever realize.

Allen, if you can read this, God Bless You and may the fields of "Valhalla" prove even more rewarding for your "Legends" and skills than those of Africa did.

Another sad day for his family and us here. He will be missed. A happy day for him as he is now hunting without a daily rate or trophy fees. God bless you Allen.

How terribly sad to hear of Allen's passing...

Allen & I spoke on several occasions as well as conversing through email. I always enjoyed speaking to him and was impressed by his knowledge, experience and deep passions for hunting & rifles. When he stopped posting I was not surprised. However, when he did not return after a long absence I was concerned. Something about that just did not sit right with me and I had the feeling things were not well with him. Not knowing him terribly well and feeling he was a private man I never reached out to or sent him an email just to say Hi. I felt I was respecting his privacy....I deeply regret that now.

Allen, I will remember you a man of great focus, drive and especially passion. I am better for having known you...

God Speed Allen.

Dear Allen,

I really enjoyed the times that we spoke together. You were always very honest and insightful. You shared strong family values and work ethic. You provided me guidance, you were patient and kind, you mentioned going hunting with me one day...that will have to wait for a while now!

Happy hunting and my most sincere condolences for your family and friends,

Very best wishes,
Louis

I spoke with Allen on the phone once; he called me I think, to discuss an AR topic on which I supported him.

I never did agree with his opinion on controlled round feeding, but I did agree with him on many other things, including basing one's opinions on experience and not bullistics.

Whether you agreed with him or not, he always stood his ground and I always admired him for that.

I chatted online with Allen many times and am sad at his passing.

He was a straight up guy and didn't tell bullshit. What he said he did, he did. A good guy.

May be hunt in the happy hunting grounds.

RIP.

He was M70 through and through. For some reason I now have Model 70s.
