Thor and I were hunting with a disadvantaged and elderly gentleman who had simply wanted to return to Africa to hunt. A fine man whose body simply could not keep up with the rigours of the chase. In the very early morning Thor would find the buff and call me up and we eventually and very slowly guided this wonderful fellow onto a good bull. His shooting had always been impeccable and the animal went down to a single bullet.

We all smoked a good cigar and drank whiskey for lunch and took the day off.

The photo is Thor with the gentleman's buffalo at Munyamadzi this earlier this morning.

It's heartening to read this. If we live long enough, we all reach a point where hunting may not otherwise be possible. I'd like to think that someday, when that happens, I could still participate in the experience.

That was exactly what this was about and the client completely understood his limitations.

We had some much needed luck this morning and young Thor actually called the buffalo into us.

That was a first for me.

Thor called them back in within a hundred yards and the picture shows them returning but the bull we shot is not visible here. I was trying to get some photographs and give the old man some instructions at the same time. Always good to have a couple of PHs on the scene.

Well done... may we all be so lucky and have some semblance of health to hunt as long as we choose!

I have called deer in on a running rope and turkeys. I cannot even imagine what it felt like to have a herd of buffalo wheel around and come in. It must have been a wonderful experience.

Thor apprenticed under me and now teaches me a trick or two. When the buff departed I thought that was that for the day as walking was limited to a kilometre or so.

Any who are interested in hunting buffalo would do well to hunt with this interesting man.

This is a fine treat for an old guy made by a couple of very kind men. Being in my 80th year of life, I can appreciate what a generous undertaking this was for making a lasting memory for this old gentleman.

I have done a lot of calling of game, have found that most animals can be called once you find the key! I have seen PHs get buffalo to stand and look at direction of the hunters so the horns and boss can be judged by using a buffalo moaning sound.

I too have always thought buffalo could be called, and My thoughts were mimicking the sound of a buffalo calf's bleeting while being taken down by a cat. I base that on the discovery that Javalinas could be called with a dyeing rabbit call which sounds like a baby Javalinas cry. They come in ready to fight so most callers in the Texas brush country climb a mesquite tree before calling. Eeker
