Sorry to the Mac users for the inconvenience. We have in fact gone to great lengths to ensure the product we are developing is available to a broad spectrum of devices and platforms. We have been testing the systems vigorously for the last six months, though as is the way with the Internet, Mr. Murphy invariably has a curve ball we must deal with. You guys are the first free mass distribution of this nature we have attempted, and while I am 99% confident the systems will work, we have to accept we are on a learning curve.

Our tech lady has looked at it, and been in touch with the programmers of the forms we use, and in fact there is no glitch as such. Please allow me to explain.

As a measure of protection and security (for both us and those using the forms), we integrated a “Captcha” field - the “word” you have to copy before submitting. A captcha helps protect the forms against spammers and spambots that are programmed to attack websites and the like flooding them with tons of unwanted information.

Apparently, a Captcha field works like this... A person enters in the Correct Captcha then the form is accepted. However, if an incorrect Captcha is entered then this leads to a Secondary Captcha, which will appear in the middle of the page afterwards, allowing us to then ask you to enter the correct Captcha as verification. If you enter a Valid Captcha correctly, then your submission will be accepted. An Apple MAC/Ipad is capable of getting through a captcha (because they are apparently “clever”) and therefore MAC users often get frustrated as they are typically asked for 3 captcha in a row.

We have, in the meantime, disabled the captcha field on the form, so as to ensure those with Mac platforms can register without the hassle.

If for any reason anyone has a problem with the form, please just PM me with your e-mail address and we will manually enter your subscription

Using a MAC I was unable to see the captcha on the first page, but if I hit return, I was presented with a new page with a captcha that I could see. Not sure if this was unique to me, but it may be a direction to send your programmer.

Hi Ant:

Missed seeing you at the last couple of SCI conventions.

I've been using Macs since 1985, when we bought five of them to publish Safari magazine and the SCI record books. Those of you who still are using PCs don't know what you have been missing.

You will be happy to know I had no problems when I signed up for a digital subscription on my IMac a few minutes ago.

Thanks guys for all your comments. It is gratifying to see the response, and that many of you have opted for both magazines. The African Fisherman is quite colloquial in its content, though I am sure those of you who have opted for it will enjoy its African content. Certainly if you plan a bit of fishing while hunting, as often happens, it will be a great resource.

Mike, great to have you on board again too. I suppose ultimately, digital will replace print, and then I too will feel better about saving trees. I am a printer at heart though, and certainly for the foreseeable future, we plan to continue printing. This digital magazine comes pretty close to the real thing (as it is a turn-page product), but for me, there is nothing quite like the feel of a magazine, the smell of fresh ink, and feel of paper.

Bill, thanks for your support, something we have enjoyed almost since the inception of the African Hunter some 20 years back. I remember you trying to convert me to Macs way back when, and know lots of people that use them, especially in our industry. Maybe one day... We unfortunately had to forego the show circuit for a bit, but we will be in Las Vegas in 2014. It will be good to catch up with all our old friends, as I have really missed the visits.

Good evening Ladies & Gentlemen, or morning as the case may be.

We have just finished fulfilling your complimentary digital magazine subscriptions. Sorry it's a little late, but the Zimbabwean Elections last week disrupted things a bit. According to our digital whiz kid, we seem to have 3 bounced subscriptions which is possibly due to incorrect email addresses. If anyone has any problems opening their magazines, please do not hesitate to either email us (fishunt@zol.co.zw / adhunt@mweb.co.za) or PM me. Monday and Tuesday next week are public holidays in Zimbabwe and I am taking the opportunity to do some work in the field. As most of us are away, we shall attend to any issues on Wednesday. Please be patient.

Since my original post, we have further tested this system and are confident it is working as it should be. The internet being what it is, one never knows when Mr. Murphy might be lurking! As I said, please let us know if you have a problem.

I wish you many happy hours of reading and look forward to your feedback on our publications. Constructive criticism can only help us provide the product that you want to see.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

Ant, thank you for the digital version. I just now subscribed to both digital maganzines. As a subscriber to the print version of African Hunter over the last few years, I have to say I thoroughly enjoy your magazine. (And I too am a fan of print versions).

I want to recognize your office staff as well. A couple of years ago there were some difficulties getting renewal information to you, and they worked diligently to see that my subscription continued.

Ant-

It does not work with the Apple Mac using Safari. Safari is the most common browser for the Mac system, so this is a major problem which needs to be addressed soonest.

Thanks Chuck for your comments, it put a smile on the office ladies’ faces. It means I can wield more whip over them when Africa throws us those odd curve balls!

Mike, some Mac (and PC) platforms are likely to have trouble with this new turn-page technology we are using. Like the Safari browser, Internet Explorer (for PCs) where it is not up-dated will struggle a bit too. But up-dates or up-grades are readily available and they are approved by Apple and Microsoft, as we would not recommend unsafe software. That said, the latest version of Safari or Internet Explorer with the latest Adobe Flash Player, will worklike a dream.

Following your experience we did test a few of these procedures on an Apple Mac running 10.7 using Safari and have had similar problems with enlarging etc. We then tried the same magazine in Google Chrome (on the same Mac) and it worked perfectly. After speaking with our partner engineers in our online bookshelf, they suggested downloading their free App for Mac which would eliminate all your problems. Click this link -https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/joomag/id454833442?mt=8 - and login in through that (this little App is a nice touch as you can view your bookshelf offline in it too!).

For other Mac users, this is the link to an Apple approved version of Google Chrome for Macs -http://www.google.com/mac/.

We have found this browser to be excellent with our product as it has built-in functions such as flash players and audio players that make many things easier to view including the likes of Youtube etc.

Please do let us know if you still have problems.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Although we have done the first bulk distribution to those who signed up, we will be doing weekly up-dates for those members trickling in now, so please be patient.
