What an idiotic story! Despite the obvious agenda, they didn't get the facts anywhere near accurate. Oh, wait! .... that's what the antis always do!

Actually, its the comments that are so unbelievable. The fact that, to a man, all of them celebrate the death of a person who never did anything to harm them or their's, shows where we have moved to in this country -- and that place is downright scary!

I don't know which is worst: that this occurred at all; that this functionally-incomprehensible "news" story actually went on the wires in the form that it did; or that I am no longer surprised at the outpouring of idiotic drivel that followed.

There are so many errors and mis-information in those 2 pubs that one would hope that any intelligent person would shun them as complete fools and idiots.

Gibbo's friends and family have been inundated with this $h!t!!!

It is a terrible world which we navigate these days!

In reading the comments you'll see that, to a one, they believe all hunting is poaching. There is absolutely no difference in their minds and it would be impossible to explain the difference to them.

Sir...you are 100% correct in your analysis. My buddy Nigel Theisen tells me that exact statement all the time.

That is what we should combat...that mentality that equates legal hunting with poaching.

I can't bring myself to click on the story and I learned very quickly right after Ian's death to quit reading any stories in the mainstream media regarding the incident and especially stop reading the comments from the severely mentally damaged individuals that post them.

Our society has lost a tremendous amount of grace in dealing with each other. There is an element in society that is promoting the "elimination" of anyone that has an opinion that doesn't "tow the line" of the liberal/progressive agenda. These people that call themselves "progressive" haven't the slightest inkling that they are following a tired old idea that has failed in Germany, the U.S.S.R., etc.

What gives one hope is the fact that there are still people that hold their heads up no matter what, conduct themselves with grace and class, completely ignore the raging lunatics that are against them, and go on about their lives with joy and personal responsibility. I believe Ian's children are those types of individuals. And Ian would be proud.

Instead of focusing on rubbish, how about a different perspective. I just finished re-reading Nick Tredger's book From Rhodesia to Mugabe's Zimbabwe (a great book by the way). Nick was the warden at Mana Pools when Ian was stationed as a ranger there. Nick talks of Ian's love of fishing and tells a funny story about Ian capturing and bringing a buzzard to the Mana Pools office that had eaten so much that it could not fly. There is also a picture of Ian as a ranger in the book . . . Before he started enjoying all the good camp chow Chifuti must serve. Big Grin

Everyone seems to celebrate social media....... I think it brings out the worst in people. Hell just look on here and how fellow AR members attack each other and justify it afterwards with what amounts to feeble BS.

There is no consequence to spouting off on social media. When you combine that with the fact that your average citizen these days has a very narrow knowledge base and is a product of the social engineering of the last couple of decades......... well, you are trying to reason with those who cannot reason and do not have critical thinking skills.

Its like yelling at the deaf. Just raises your blood pressure.

Truly depressing, both the article and esp the comments. One thing we must and can do individually is to conduct ourselves as ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, hunters in America often fail to do so, and they are the ones the antis see most frequently.

I hate to shock you big hunter guys BUT, I have seen this posted on Facebook in some form or fashion by guys who run charter boats and hunt in their spare time. The comments are always horrible.

They are devout republicans. Most hunters in the US DO NOT see the point of elephant hunting. We are in a very small minority.

I learned my lesson on social media, when I read something that sounds incredible, I reseach it. Apparently there are folks in this world that flat out lie to promote their agenda. And there are people who never let facts get in the way of their faulty thinking or their emotions.

My solution is simple, I post the facts when others post their spoor.

In the upcoming DSC GAMETRAILS Magazine I wrote a article dedicated to my friend Ian Gibson. It is not about his death, but about the man, and the life he so fully lived. I hope you will all give it a read if possible. And unlike the trash being discussed, it comes from someone that knows the man, and the truth.
Cheers

So Dave

How accurate is Craig Boddington's article on Mr. Gibson's death in the Sept/Oct Rifle Shooter?

He seems to be laying the blame on a jammed rifle (that had been unreliable before).

This is the first time I read this, of course it may have been common knowledge for all I know.

Saeed, you are exactly right.

BTW, this is DU, it's an extreme left internet forum. I have right leaning friends that go there from time to time in order to argue as a hobby.

Read this rubbish....

The White House made one unfortunate concession to elephant killers, though: American hunters are allowed to bring up to four “trophy” tusks per person, per year into the US. This is a big improvement on the status quo, which had no limits on the number of trophies allowed for import (in some cases, hunters brought back up to a hundred tusks on one trip) but it still means that Safari Club members and others are licensed to kill elephants for fun.

Having dealt with anti hunting idiots for years, this article is no surprise to me at all!

The fact is there is not a whole brain in all those who commented combined! The whole group's brains put together would not make a decent wart on Gibbo's ass!

If ignorance was cancer they would all be terminal, and a waste of chemo therapy.

I don't get that magazine and it's really a meaningless detail now, but, I am curious because in 2010 I had to go straight to the gun shop after landing home, buy a magazine spring for that .458 and ship it to the next hunter headed out to hunt with Ian. We were following up a kudu I didn't hit properly. Ian ran around the left of a bush and fell, breaking the spring. I ran around to the right, saw the kudu, and put another one in him, downing him. Ian was livid and I was ecstatic. I love that memory.

As to the Boddington article, well, I have not read it. I have no indication from the one man there, Robert his tracker, that there was any hint of a mechanical problem with the rifle. Gibbo was not an idiot, which would be indicated if he was to be doing what he did for a living carrying a rifle he believed to be in anything but perfect working order. Not saying that in the life of that workhorse of a rifle it had not developed a glitch or two (that was addressed and fixed)but I have NO indication whatsoever that this was an issue. Gibbo tried to scream the elephant down to avoid shooting it, the bull was hellbent on murder, and came full speed through heavy cover. Those are the facts.

I find this interesting in light of the CRF (vs) PF debate:

-that Ian Gibsons regular work tool was a pUsH-Feed .458 win...and he had a push-feed Remington .416 for use by his clients.
