Thanks for the comments everyone. Tembo: Mush does not stay on Humani, but he does a few hunts here every year. Coincidentally, he has just finished a hunt and headed home today. | |||

Were Nyala an indigenous species to the Save? Were they always there, or were they re-introduced? That klippie is awesome. Even though mine is not nearly as impressive, it was my favorite hunt. I never even thought about hunting one, but they are sure good sport in the granite kopjes. | |||

Len I can't answer that right now as I honestly don't know. I know that nyala always occured in particular areas in the lowveld (Mateke Hills, Mabaluata), but I don't know if they occured right here in the Save. My guess is they did and disappeared during the cattle era, but I'll find out for certain from my father tomorrow and PM you with the answer. Yes, I agree, a klippie is a very unique and special trophy, usually taken after a memorable hunt. I am very fond of klippies, as are most hunters I know. | |||

I know they were indigenous on the Lemco when I hunted there in 1994 along the Bubi River and we shared a boundary with the Save. I think there were only two on quota on almost one million acres so they were not one of the more numerous species but occured in the lowveldt of Zim and to the east in Moz as well. Dave That old Eland does look tough! I don't know if you have Ian Nyschens book "Months of the Sun" or not but it has a picture of an old Eland toward the middle of the book. The bull is laid out like the one you posted except the head is jacked up in the air with the hunter perched on the ground underneath. I really like the pose but for the life of me I can't see what is holding his head up. Do you have clue? | |||

Ray I don't have 'Months of the Sun' but have read it, and I do recall that eland and the manner in which it was posed. I don't know how they did that, but now you have given me a mission and I will find out! The PH's I know have some ingenious methods of posing trophies for pictures, and I'm sure they'll help me get to the bottom of it. Roger has the book and I'll dig it out and take a good look at that photo again. That book is a classic, is it not? Will get back to you soon. bwanamrm I believe you have answered Len's question -thanks for clearing that up. Jeff That sable was taken on Carolina wilderness area - a highveld game ranch here in Zim where we do some plainsgame hunting. We hunt several sable areas, with a property in Matabeleland being the best. I shall post some more sable trophy pictures from 2006 in due course. | |||
