I could use some help and advice. 3 years ago I took my family for plains game trip to South Africa with Stephen Barber of Xomaqua Safaris in Limpopo. We had a fun family time, Kruger, helicopter for game count, went to game auction etc. No complaints about trip. I shot a sable, Nyala and a Zebra. Each of my preteen sons shot their first African game, Impalas. The trophies were sent to KZN taxidermy. To date, still no trophies. They are ready according to Isao Smith, owner of KZN taxidermy, they are ready and my account is paid in full. However, he lacks the permission to hunt paper work from Mr. Barber. Mr. Barber has apparently lost his hunting farm and is not responding to emails and attempted phone calls. Do I have any other options to get these trohpies if I never get his signature on permission to hunt paper work? Do I hire an attorney and what could he do? I want my boys impalas more than anything. All advice appreciated. Thank you, Greg Bauer

Hi. I will contact my taxidermy tomorrow and see what they say maybe there is a way that I can help you, can you please send me the taxidermy name and all details to ljhuntingsafaris@gmail.com

Obviously I cannot promise anything but will try my best, never nice if service isn't completed. Hope you come right with the trophies.

If you send me details I will make work of it tomorrow.

I believe I would reach out to PHASA, (professional hunters organization of SA), I bet they can give you some guidance.

Shoulderman,

I can offer no help but would like to thank you for putting this amount of effort into retrieving your hunting trophies.

I've commented in other threads about a new attitude about just taking photographs of hunting trophies and leaving everything behind.

If I could help you I would. Stick with it, the day you open that crate, you effort will be rewarded.

PHASA is only a membership organisation & only represents the interests of it's members & according to the PHASA website, Barber is not a member so whilst they might offer advice they probably wouldn't or couldn't do more.

Bearing in mind the taxidermist almost certainly deals regularly with the game dept and that the game dept isn't exactly efficiently managed, I'd be inclined to ask the taxidermist to sit down quietly with someone in said game dept and ask if there's some way the paperwork could be reissued...... perhaps by repaying the licence fee (not trophy fee) again.

A degree of reading between the lines might be in order with this comment and probably not a good idea to discuss details on an open forum.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Sir , unfortunately without the permission to hunt document your trophies are going nowhere.
I see that Steven Barber was operating from the Alldays area.
Maybe some of our members from up that way know him , of him or can find out how to get hold of him to have him sign the document.
You are welcome to call or e mail me for help.

Thank you to all who have offered to help. Literally, just now I received a scanned copy permission to hunt paper work that is signed and has been emailed to the taxidermist. I have had a mutual friend working on it for me and until now he had had no success. Hopefully my process with the taxidermist can now move forward. I have no idea if my post here has expedited the process, but within 24 hours I have the paperwork I need. Thanks again to everyone
