Looking to book a hunt in Save Valley Conservancy for 2009 for two people.
Main animals are Qty 2 Leopards, 1 x sable, 1x nyala and 1 x waterbuck. Hopefully, a hyena and few other small game. After doing some research this sounds like a very good area to have a good chance at all the above animals, and be in my price range.

Check out Shangaan Hunters (www.shangaanhunters.com)

Hunted the Save with them in 2004. You cannot go wrong with this outfit.

I've had several PH's tell me that it's difficult shooting two nice leopards out of the same camp in one hunt. I would be interested on thoughts of anyone that has been able to do this and the areas where it's been done.

I do not want to shot two. One for myself and one for my father. We tried last year in the Guay(SP) area for leopard. Boy was that a big mistake. I assume most PH's hunt out of the same camp or the same few camps all season. You just travel farther for Leopard as the season goes on?

On another note, I have a nice sable. My dad would like one. Why does it raise the daily rate? I understand the higher trophy fee? I assume the PH is getting paid the same per day, I know there are not more cost?

Motorcity,

Reference Yukon Delta's post, my husband and I think the world of Johnny Hulme and his tracker Amos. Johnny was my husband's PH on his 2000 lion/buffalo hunt in Chirisa.

Reference Bwanna's post. In September 2005 we were at Lemco's Samanyanga camp. Our PH was Terry Fenn and our friend's had Wayne Williamson. My husband was after leopard and our friends buffalo. Although technically not out of the same camp, my husband shot a huge leopard and Lou Hallamore's client did the same days apart. After my husband shot his leopard another big male began feeding at one of the baits. A large group of hunters were arriving after we completed our hunt. One of the hunters was after leopard and wanted pre-baiting. The manager at Lemco asked Wayne if he could stay on and PH the leopard hunter. Terry showed Wayne the bait that was getting hit and it was all over after that hunter arrived. Another big leopard shot.

The month before our hunt was when Tim Wegner shot that monster leopard from the Samanyanga camp.

Contact Mark Young here on AR and go with Mokore Safari.

I was home two weeks from my trip with them before calling Mark to go back to Mokore.

I second Shangaan hunters. Glenn Stockil is an excellent PH. I hunted with him in 2005.

I was told thhat Lemco is being cross fenced as per the current ownership. Does anyone know more about this and how it will effect hunting from block to block?

I would love to be in your position- you get to choose between some of Zim's finest outfitters. You would be hard pressed to find anyone with a bad word to say for any of the outfitters in the Save. Shaangaan Hunters, Brooklands, Zambezi Hunters, Roger Whittall Safaris, and Mokore all have excellent reputations.
I have never heard of any of the areas within the Save being any better or worse than the others. I think they all have their share of monster leopards and plains game.
I chimed in on your thread before- I would not hesitate to book through Safari Trackers. They have a well earned reputation. I don't know how long Mark has been there, but Adam has been in it for at least 12 years. There have been a large amount of agents that have come and gone in that time. When my time comes to head back to Zim, you can bet Safari Trackers will be my first call.

Unless something has changed, hyena are not very plentiful or allowed to be taken in the Save.

What you might be able to do is call Ron Oliver with African Hunting Safaris to get the complete bag you want. I haven't heard of any Hyena available in Save either but Ron might be able to set you up with one of his guides in the Save for Mr. Spots and then jump you somewhere else for a Hyena.

I second the others though. Mokore, SHangaan, Zambezi hunters, and Save Valley Safaris all run top notch camps with excellent game availibility.

I hunted with Shangaan in 2001 and 2002, and shot a very nice leopard on the second hunt. On the night we took the leopard we had four baits out, and all four of them were hit by males (from the tracks). They do have great population of leopard.

Glen Stockill emailed to say they are sold out for leopard through 2009.

if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

The reason Sable bumps up the daily rate is that this is a highly desirable trophy in limited supply and the concession holders in Zim use the higher rate to ration the availabe trophies, just as they do with the big four. Sable is no longer considered "plains game" and they are even more expensive in countries other than Zim.

Having said that, we can do a Sable hunt as an add-on to a leopard or PAC hunt at $500 per day This is all private unfenced land.

Here are a few leopards taken by Roger Whittall Safaris clients in 2007, for your interest.

David,

I don't know if there are stats to back it up but I have say that the Save in general may produce the most big leopards consistently of any area in Africa.

Thanks for all the great information.
I will be contacting everyone listed and making a decision in the near future.
Again, to make clear. This is what I am looking for.
For my dad and me to stay in the same camp, we do not need to hunt together.
We would both like to hunt leopard.
I would like to add a nyala, waterbuck, and warthog. If I get everything and there is time I would not mind looking for a croc or a giraffe.
My dad would like to add a sable and maybe an eland. If he gets everything and there is time he would like to look for croc.
We are looking to hunt in 2009.
These are the hunting companies I am looking into. These were either PM’d to me or listed here. Again I want to hunt the Save Valley Conservancy for 2009 for two people

Mbalabala Safaris Zimbabwe- need a website of e-mail
http://www.zambezihunters.com
Mokore Safari.-Mark Y. has sent hunt info from them.
Roger Whittall Safaris- Dave thanks for the great PIC’s of the leopards. Need prices & availability for 2009
Russ Gould-please send me info of Leopard hunt, plus PAC & sable hunt.
SHangaan,- http://www.shangaanhunters.com
Save Valley Safaris-need info

Did I miss anyone?

My e-mail is tpalmer@motorcitycomputer.com
