Just got back from the Friday opener, once again DSC pulled off another great show.

Good to see all my friends, the great mounts, and all the deals. The R44 chopper in C wing was a surprise, the custom gun makers was worth the time to check out,

can't forget the cape buffalo chopper, and the life size nail sculptures were amazing! Hope all enjoy the show as well.

Enjoy seeing the faces, to put with names. Also, enjoy seeing the outfitter pics and surroundings. Nice for those that didn't make it there.

Mike: It was a real pleasure meeting you, the Judge, and other members of the forum in Dallas. I can't say enough about what a great time I had at the get-together Friday night. The event was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to next January!

We must do something different for next year. I was at the dinner and it was great BUT I didn't know anyone. No introductions, no name tags. Lots of you I wanted to meet. Two of you asked me to bring some of my books for sale, which I did, but you didn't know me (or my handsome face coupled with a Herculean physique) and I brought them back to the hotel. Next year, let's have some intros at the beginning.
Cheers, gents.

I tried, Cal, to get everyones attention before the door prizes.... but if you remember, I was somewhat "noised" out by the talkers and just sat down... Put 100 guys and gals in a bunch and even this old Marine captain couldn't keep the groups attention for a few minutes. Alas!

Anyway, we never had over 80 committed and had about 100 there. Even with the percentage donated by DSC "watered down" by the extra attendees, (the cost was about 40% more than the $21 paid after taxes and gratuities... knowing that DSC was going to contribute some... the late attendees not being supplimented, in effect) we gave Stu Taylor some real money and the same to DSC's educational fund.

Way to go guys! Kids will learn about our American hunting heritage and Stu will have some of his bills paid by your (and DSC's) largess.

BTW, I made some "command" decisions of how the money goes to Stu due to the Zim situation of taxes, etc. P.M. me if you have any questions.

Cal, next year, you'd make a great chairman! Just bring your crutches again or a .600 N.E. and hit people over the head with it. Big Grin

Gents:
Jorge: My original intent was to be at the African Hunter as Ant Williams (owner) has generously offered me some space to push my books and show a double or two (three years ago I had my .600 and 4-bore there). Things change a bit with out Ant and there was not enough room for me there and one of then gents was going to give his wife some space to sell jewelry. My new book was delegated to the back wall. Also, my books did not show up until Friday at noon so I spent the first day meeting people and selling whilst limping around on my crutches.

Biebs: When you use the term "gimp" I don't understand how you can sleep at night poking fun at a senior citizen on crutches. Have you no conscience?

Judge: I hope to be off crutches next year. This year (in keeping with what I am known for) I was going to use the 4-bore as one crutch and the .600 as the other. The problem is one has 28-inch barrels and the other 26-inch. Can you imagine the shit I'd take from Biebs if my supports were off balance and I had even more of a "gimp?" Also, send me your post address again and I'll send you another 20$ to cover the my end of the 40% shortfall for my friend and myself.

ddrhook: Yes, sir, I did manage to meet Bwana Cecil. A fine gent and a pleasure to meet him as the rest of you.

Anyway, fellas, thanks for a wonderful time. I will look forward in anticipation to next year and all the print on AR between times.

Cheers,all.
Cal

If it sounded like the late attendees didn't pay their fair share, I surely didn't mean that. Everyone paid the same, or $21. I just made my best guess about how many would be there and with the late guys coming (who we, of course, welcomed), was off in the estimate. Money went where it was supposed to go, good causes were the beneficaries and we had a great time... so, don't fret. Just take my job for next year.

Not a complaint, but due to my own issues and the travel time to the restaurant, I didn't arrive until after everyone was seated and had already formed a buffet line. There were only a few empty seats available - in fact when Michael458 arrived with a party of 8 shortly after my arrival, a new table had to be set-up just to seat them all. I had hopes of meeting a bunch of AR folks but once everyone was seated and eating, there was little chance for interaction. Michael did introduce me to the Judge, when I asked, as things were breaking up after dinner.

I thought the buffet was just fine, the food good and the staff attentive. Thanks Judge G!

I would think AR name tags would be helpful, especially for first timers; I don't know Dallas and a travel time estimate from the convention center to the restaurant would have been appreciated, as looking at the map gave me no idea.

I was able to meet some from AR at Michael's B&M rifles and cartridges booth. A great idea to have such a place on the convention floor.

I am now a DSC member and after attending SCI for 15 years as a life member, I plan to return to Dallas for the DSC convention again next year.

I really enjoyed meeting everyone, Cal, JDollar, Biebs, Lion Hunter, DDRhook, and too many others to remember. My thanks to Retreever for his assistance for the Saturday night party. By the way, we did not have as many at the Party, but still had fun. Looks like we had enought booze and beer left over for next year's Saturday night wingding! And I joined DSC this year.
