A friend of mine used his 270WSM for his hunt back in 01-02? At the time, the cartridge was new enough that it still had limited load data available, so he used Winchester factory ammo loaded with the 150grn Power Point. I don't recall exactly how many or what type of animals he took, but I do know that they were all one-shot kills. The one bullet he did recover was a nice boring looking mushroon that showed good expansion and had some shank left in it.

I would expect that a 140grn premium would be the way to go. I shoot 140grn Accubonds and 140grn TSX's in mine. It works great here in Oregon, so I see no reason it wouldn't be acceptable on the Dark Continent.

My dad used his 270 WSM loaded with 140 grain TSXs in Namibia in 2004 to kill a zebra, a kudu, a springbok, a warthog, a red hartebeest, and a couple of impala with little difficulty. Put a good quality bullet through the vitals and the critters will die.

Why not? Stay with one of the well constructed bullets, know your limitations and shooting skills and there should be no problem. But no, I wouldn't recommend it for Eland unless your certain of your accuracy and have the $$$ just in case.
Good hunting,
LDK

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

The only reason I don't use my 270WSM for plains game is I use my 300WSM for plains game!! Go for it.
