50 million litres of concentrated acid and heavy metals from a Chinese copper mine entered the Kafue River after a dam burst. The river is reported to be completely dead 100km downstream as the poison heads towards the Zambesi.
The Kafue Lechwe could be in trouble as well as all the other wildlife, livestock and people dependant on the river.

I believe the acid was neutralized and diluted before the Park but 300km were badly affected and now sterile. The Chinese have promised a clean up!

This attitude is why the greenies keep gaining ground.

Does it happen? Unfortunately, yes. However, it usually comes back to someone doing something they shouldn't.

Folks,

This is such a shame. The Kafue river is one of the most scenic places I've had a pleasure of visiting. I am personally saddened.

Agreed! The Kafue is a special place.

I presume that most or all hippos and crocs have also perished since they live in this poisoned water.

You can lime a river to neutralise the acid and the rains will flush it out but the heavy metals will still be there. The Chinese will release a lot of fish of course to look good but not necessarily the right species. Not that it matters because there will be nothing for the fish to eat anyway. Poor hungry people will eat those fish. Perhaps they should invite the mine owners for a fish supper?

I agree and greenies will keep fighting until we live back in cave and then it still not be enough

This is also as much to blame Zambian government for not having proper safety measures but… we know how African governments work

To-date though not a single photo has been released of the after-effects of this deadly spill. i.e. no bloated dead fish, crocs, hippo, etc, floating in the water or littering the river banks.

Key point Saeed.
Nothing also in mass media. Imagine if you go in a hunt a shoot 10 elephants, even legal hunting, it will be opening all. News around world.
I think time has come for us to stop complining of all that BS and do something about

Here is another example for your entertainment.
In December last year the Zimbabwe government banned fishing in Lake Chivero after 4 White Rhino, 3 zebras, several wildebeest, 4 fish eagles, livestock and countless fish were found dead after drinking the water contaminated by run off from Harare. No publicity about that one either!
Go and shoot 4 rhinos and listen to the uproar!

Some places are worth a little restraint.

Industry being made to use available practices and resources to prevent such catastrophic environmental damage is a good thing.

With the U.S. retreating the works is left open to China’s influence.

The 300km of affected river is communal and devoid of Hippo. There are many images of fish die offs and all aquatic species have been destroyed. No one can predict the heavy metal influence.

Did it include the Kafue where it passed Royal's old site?
