it was mentioned in Jaco Humans' post about facts of RSA that there sould be a AR get together in RSA in Upington. im finding it difficult to follow the response to that suggestion in there so i figured i'll start the link and then one can see what the response is and people can take it from there?

When, I suppose will be the big question as it will have to be before hunting season or after ?
But it sounds like a blast I have place for two people in my double cab we can share the petrol and so on. For anyone in Gauteng who would like to go.

I've never been in Upington so it would be great while we are there to organise a shoot or something as well.

What do you mean "Bushpub", we create our own beer. We travel in a convoy, it is a long way there, spread it out over 2 days. We can have plenty of braai's along the road and visit all the nice places. We will have to get KarlS involved, he got the contacts. Otherwise we must find another nice place where there is peace and quiet.

Depending on dates I'm in.

Is this a SADC AR party? Then Uppington is not so bad a choice. If is is only a South African AR party, then Bloemfontein would be a better choice.

Considering the responses of being "in" so far: Safari-Hunt = Pretoria, Jaco = Pretoria, ndlovu = ?, Karl = Bloemfontein, self = Soutpan(Bloemfontein) the logical place to minimize distance for all would be nearer Kroonstad than anywhere else.

Golden Gate comes to mind as an alternative venue? But if it has to be Uppington, well OK, it's just not on my way anywhere!

Why don't we take up Karl's offer for a springbok cull hunt very early in the season so we all have some biltong for our first hunters later in the season?

In good hunting.

I would definately be in, but due to my 'foreign studies' will probably miss the first one...BUT we should make it annual!!!

I reckon a springuck hunt would be great, a morning shoot followed by liver on veld braai would be fantastic!

Perhaps an AR-SA/SADC springbuck 'one-shot'?

I like the idea of the road side braais and camping Jaco mentioned. thumb

this is a good idea...!

Goldengate would be great to. I am typically living in PTA or Parys

Ndlovu, me and Karl S discussed this in PM's earlier this week! Upington is a great choice, and JAco I agree, the trip will be great fun spread over two days. The problem is the timing, to get everyone together on a suitable date. I'm in Groblersdal, Mpumalanga before, and now Limpopo, but we are still not sure... Wink

Carl said he would organise a Springbok hunt. Then we can hunt and do all the rest of the stuff we all know to well...... With respect Allen, how crazy do you think we will get driving around at Golden Gate?! All those animals, and we are not allowed to shoot..... Big Grin No, I agree, lets make it a biltong outing as you suggested.

I can not do anything untill late August, but there is one week in April that looks sort of OK....

This can be real fun. Lets make it AR SADC PH's thing, or we can invite some of the other SA members on the forum that are not PH's......

Cheers

From a Yankee's point of view it sounds great, especially Springbok liver on the grill. This is always one of the high points of my annual hunt in Africa either Springbok liver or Impala liver with eggs, I could survive without the eggs!

Guys we have to act quickly and get a date organized I'm starting to take bookings for videos in April already.
I think 3 days would be better 2 days driving one day for shooting.

And like I said I have space for 2 extra in my bakkie if we split the costs. 4 People in a double cab gets too uncomfortable.

Let's nominate 1 person to organise the trip and venue. I nominate Jaco..... Big Grin

I like the idea of going with Karl S to shoot Sbok. Also, are we making this a PH thing, or any AR members in SA? I think PH's only for now......

I can orginise good springbok (200km) or blesbok & springbok (80km) close to Bloemfontein. If no other Namibian guys want to join in, Bloem might be better, as my wife lives there, so I am there when off.
I would not restrict it to PH's only, I would trow it open for anybody interested.

Ndlovu...

I worked for Ian Goss some years ago while doing a Nat. Con diploma and sat through the PH course with his students.

I may be biased, but I don't think you could do better than Ian.
He is a great man, full of knowledge and a good teacher...

Ian Goss is a super choice, the only one I know of that actually fails the students not good enough. Another reccommendation is Kobus Schoeman, because of the humor.

yes, when I was there (over a decade ago Eeker, Ian failed a few students...hell, he failed me!!

I was 20 at the time, I passed almost everything with flying colours...but his reason was simply that I needed to apprentice more with an active outfit before I could guide paying clients. I learnt the big difference between huning for myslf and hunting for someone else and was good enough at it! He 'failed' the other 20 year old too. In fact not failed, but we were told to re-test the guided hunt (for free) after a learning interim. As far as I am concerned he is right..he is not in it for the money, thats why he only does 4 per year and one a month!

(I never followed that...my wildlife path went elsewhere, but the lessons stayed with me!)

He maintains he doesn't just offer you a course..he gives you a long evaluation..this he begins the day you cal him..honest. Essentially I think he sees his course as the exam. You should arrive having taken an appreticeship or have worked for an active outfit...

You will gain a lot from him!!
Yes, he does fail people more than others, or as he says..."I don't fail people, I just get them to become better before I pass them!"

I am off gor a week, I want to make a suggestion.

A lot of the members in RSA are ph's and one does not always know when you will be available.
Think about the following:

Do we just want to get together and meet each other or do we want to organise a short hunt?

Which place will be the most convenient, a place that will suit most of the RSA members.

When is the best time that will suit you.

Either post your ideas or pm it to me. I will then try to analise it and post the outcome, then we can start planning it.

Steve you will only be allowed if you have a certificate that proofs that you are a geniune "SOUTIE". I can issue them at a price beer jumping
