Here are 2 Buff that clients have shot so far this year. One is 43 1/2" and the other is 48 1/4". They were shot in the Timbavati in South Africa. As it looks now we are on track for a good year with our Buffalo hunts.

They look like East African Buffalo!
Good game management.
I think I met that second hunter at Afton Lodge.

Great trophies.

Are these free range buffalo or are they on a farm?

Saeed,

That area shares an open boarder with Kruger Park so the game moves freely between the Timbavati and the park. The area is private property and the landowners set quota and do their own management.

I was wondering the same thing about hunting Buffalo in that area. I was offered a Buffalo Hunt at a Private Nature Reserve called Sandringham which is close to Timbavati. I guess they all border Kruger. Stories I have heard is the Buff move in and out of the park.

I was told you could expect a 40" + . Price was close to $17k.

Anyone know the true hunting experience in these area bording Kruger?

Saeed,

This area is around 300,000 acres in size and backs up to the Kruger with no fences, all free range. The quota is very strict here and is set yearly, as Mark said.

We received the tenders here this year and got 3 40"+ Buff and 6 38" and less Buff. The sizing and quota are set by the Timbavati Board.

I must say the clients were very happy.

Great buffalo! When I hunted in the Limpopo area a couple of years ago, the elephant, rhino, lion and buffalo, etc. all moved back and forth between the reserve and Kruger Park with no fences. One evening after dark and upon returning to the lodge, over 300 buffalo were moving into the reserve from Kruger. It was like driving through a western cattle drive.

Long ago I hunted lions adjacent to the Timbavati ... in that particular area we had water and thus lots of game .. and the lions would come in after dark .. roar for a while .. and then .. just before first light they would roar again as they moved back to the Timbavati .. Got me all nostalgic just seeing those pictures of the great buffalo !!! thumb
