Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Speaking of canned lion hunts.

I was admiring a lion mount in Reno when this guy volunteered pictures of his lion. Being the friendly sort that I am, I looked at them and asked where it came from. He proudly said South Africa, quickly adding "free range".

I think he really believed he had taken a wild lion. He was so enthusiastic I hope it was a rare case of a wild lion in SA. I could only say "nice picture".

Man to Lion: 'They feel purrrrfectly normal to me'

Lion to man: 'Well when you squeeze 'em, I get a very uncomfortable feline'

I'd guess the Lion has a 'claws' in his contract that his face be kept hidden!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

The ponytail belongs to a guy, Alex ? My good memory refuses to bring his surname up right now.

Alex works as "manager / chief tamer" or something similar at the "Lion Park", of which there are a few, but this is the one off N14 near Muldersdrift.

The lion is a tame lion, most probably raised by Alex from a tiny cub. As far as I know 'all' the lions at the Lion Park are tame ones and used for TV ads, films and similar. As well as posing for busloads of tourists.

Just incidentally, at the "Lion & Rhino Park" which is also near Muldersdrif, most of the lions are 'wild'. Although captive bred, you would definately not be clever to get into their enclosures, as you are most unlikely to get out alive.

A year or so ago Mr. Derek Brink of the Krugersdorp Game Reserve was killed and somewhat eaten by his own captive bred [mostly] but quite wild lions in that lion enclosure. Leave such "Canned Lion Testing" to guys like Alex, who know exactly what he is doing!

In good hunting.

And, more importantly, to lions who know exactly what guys like Alex are doing.

Because I'd hate to surprise one like that.
