I know that there are only certain areas where you can hunt black wildebeest in RSA, but it has been that way for some time now. Other than that I have not heard of anything else.

There ARE restrictions on hunting Black Wildebeest in some areas for sure in RSA.

Your outfitter should be able to advise of restrictions in their area and the likely difficulty in getting the proper paperwork.

One of our group hunting in the East Cape last July hunted a Black Wildebeest on one of the last days of our hunt. The dip and pack taxidermiststruggled toget the export documents for an additional 3-4 months as the government clecks were in no particular hurry to process the paper.

Check with your outfitter.

Well, I have black wildebeest on my list for my hunt in August. I've been told by my outfitter there shouldn't be any problems.

Black Wildebeest are now a TOPS listed animal. Shouldn't be a problem to get permits as long as your Outfitter knows ahead of time. Make sure he's using a experienced dip/pack company.

Is a phrase I have come to be very skeptical of when dealing with Africa subjects! Wink

I'll second LDK's thoughts though: Make sure the outfitter knows what you are looking for and gets the paperwork under control!

TOPS = threatened or protected species.

Along with animals like the common reedbuck, black wildebeest were put on this list which requires that the landowner requires a permit to have these animals on his land, the hunter needs a permit to hunt and posess these animals.
It is a matter of another layer of paperwork which is required.
We as hunters are trying to get these animals back off this list, since they are not a TOPS species in the spirit of the document.
But we are dealing with a government dept. Roll Eyes
look at http://www.kznhunters.co.za/si...er=6643&depnum=23556 for more info.
it bis not a serious hassle for the permit if your outfitter is on top os things Wink

There is no shortage of black wildebeest for hunting, just a lot of extra (and unnecessary) red tape.

I spoke with A friend of mine, Pieter-Louis LeRoux of Wild Footprint Safaris in RSA. He stated that there are no issues with harvest or export of Black Wildebeest.
