For you Africa travelers: As I've been laid-up this year following two spinal surgeries, I've had much time to catch up on my leisure reading. So, I was rereading one of Capstick's books and came across the name "Geoff Broom" under the buffalo chapter therein. The name ("Broom") stuck on me, but I couldn't remember where I'd come across the name before. Then I remembered that "Russ Broom" was recommended to me by another poster here on AR (a hunter who has actually been to Africa --unlike me, yet-- and who has taken a few of the BIG 5 while there, among a number of plains game too). Just to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone know if Russ is related to Geoff? It is a small chance, I'm sure, but Capstick states in the book that Geoff hunted with his young son, but never mentioned the younger Broom's name. The book is Death in the Long Grass and the remark is found on page 160. Just Curious . . . -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

Hi, yes, Russ Broom is Geoff Broom's son. You can read more about their exploits together in Geoff's excellent book "A Life on Safari". I had the pleasure of meeting Geoff at a book signing earlier this year. I was left with the impression that he is an absolute gentleman, and I can only assume that his son must be cut from that same mold. Cheers

I have had the pleasure of meeting both Geoff and his son Russ. Hunted with Russ in 2002 in Zim and took a really nice Buff. The book mentioned "A Life on Safari" is outstanding reading. Geoff's story is one most all of us would have loved to live. Geoff did not make it to the SCI show last year, but hopefully he will be there in 08 as I would like to get him to sign my copy of his book. Larry Sellers

I met Geoff back in the late 70's. He was a guest at my home during his convention travels. I've never met his Son however. Geoff told me of his hunting life in Rhodesia and he was the PH for some of my clients.
