Shortly after Darin had left the Kafue the two brutes that I had targeted for her turned up and had the audacity to chew on one of Darin's buff skins. In an alarming turn of events I was charged by the dark maned Lion into the kitchen and sought a large stiff broom for my defence. My Chef Ronald chose a crate of beer as his weapon of choice. You could hear Patsy Hahn giggling in the background and thought the whole scene very funny. The second charge occurred at the skinning shed whilst I was trying to extract my clients trophies for safe keeping. At one point I locked my self in the skinning shed.

My client was on a PG safari and simply could not afford the upgrade I was asking and simply remarked it would have been all too easy. Exactly what I had thought a couple of weeks earlier. Nature is unpredictable at the best of times.

Very respectable looking pussy cats.
Shame they got their diaries out of whack.
Good to hear someone else has that effect on Lions but Ronald had the better caliber for defence purposes. Locked in the skinning shed with a crate of beer is not so hard to manage whereas a broom is decidedly passé.

These cats were on a mission and obviously a brazen bunch, with balls to match. The reaction assumed by the author of the post is the minimum to be expected from a true PH.

Good on you Andrew! tu2

Not like some others we know who would have shot the shit out of them. coffee

Mate I now have an expensive Lion tag in hand and so was sorely tempted. Hopefully someone can take up this opportunity before the end of the season.

Very sporting of you chaps I would say , not being over gunned and all. tu2

Hell of a lion that dark maned one. Absolutely no fear of man it seems.

Beautiful cats. I have the time, but alas not the finances. You have my congrats on not shooting either of them as pests. Maybe you should adopt them as the camp mascots?

Andrew,

Too easy????? When Dyana smiles on you you do not check her teeth. I would have been fumbling cartridges into my 375 and worried about the money MUCH later.

Mate I had a buff in the skinning shed and a river full of hippo. It had crossed my mind to bait them and then makes some phone cals but that is hardly hunting is it?

You are exactly right!!!!
You need to get Steve back to Royal Kafue fast!! Those lions would probably wait for him too!

Next time Darin hunts them maybe set up your blind in the kitchen or the skinning shed?

The gods of the hunt enjoy laughing at our expense. Some days fortune shines on you, and some days it rains.

The Lion I shot in Nyaminga (Zambia) in 2005 was basically a "Camp Lion." The bait I shot him off of was less than one mile from camp. Alister Norton had seen him around camp and across the river, directly across from camp.

He told me all about this lion when I got to camp. We targeted him and killed him in a day or two.

Acer;

I left almost a month ago after hanging bait for 21 days. The lions hadn't made their rounds to Royal Kafue yet.

So let the bidding begin! It will be a fantastic hunt!

Best regards, D. Nelson

Darin,

My experience at Royal is that bait is not necessary. Just coffee and a sunrise. sofa

Cheers
Jim

Okay that was my problem! Hung lots of baits, hunted hard (but definitely had fun), but should have just hung out at the dining chalet and waited for the lions to come to the kitchen or skinning hut! Now you tell me! rotflmo

I know you told me this is how it's done, but I didn't believe it!!!
