If you obtain an import permit from FWS for say a Leopard and are unsuccessful on the hunt do you have to notify FWS or do anything with the permit? No, you don't have to do anything with it. It will just expire after twelve months. Jerry Huffaker State, National and World Champion Taxidermist

http://www.fws.gov/forms/3-200-19.pdf Frostbit, Here is the link stating to return the permit. A friend of ours from Nevada had an Argali permit and he was unsuccessful. He did not return the unused permit. The next time he applied for a permit he was told to send in the unused permit or he would not be given another CITES permit. I believe CITES applications ask you to list the last permit that was issued to you. Section D, #2 any prior permits. This permit will require a report on your hunt that must be submitted within 30 days of the import of your trophy. If you do not import a trophy you must return the unused permit. No further permits can be issued until this requirement is fulfilled. This was taken from the Argali application form. I wonder if that's Argali specific. The reason I started the thread is because that is exactly what happened to a friend with his Argali permit. Only he had sent it in and FWS "lost it". He got it cleared up with John Jackson's help. So here's the deal. I have an unfilled Leopard permit from 2012. It's sitting here on my table. Joyce and I are hunting Leopard again in 2015. I noticed the application asks if you have applied before (D2 if I remember) and asks for the permit number. That's the only reason I looked for and found the 2012 permit. Has anyone else had a Leopard permit they didn't send back and then got another without problem without sending the old one in? ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Section D.2 Federal Fish and Wildlife permits: • List the number(s) of your most recent issued USFWS permit. If applying for re-issuance of a CITES permit, the original permit must be returned with this application. This makes it sound like a reissuance for a permit that expired but the Leopard hasn't been imported yet. We will be on a completely different Leopard hunt. I have time to send this old one back in but I don't want to confuse the FWS or give them an excuse to not issue our new ones. There have been plenty of unsuccessful Leopard hunters on here that have gone back again. What did you do? ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

You are supposed to send back any unused import permit. I send by FedEx, signature required, and keep copies of my cover letter and permit, along with delivery info. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I believe most hunters didn't apply for a Cites permit until they had killed their leopard.

There are some advantages in doing it that way .Getting the export formation to match up with what is on your import permit is very important
