I might mention that on my recent Atlanta to Cape Town via Joburg (flight 212), 30 minutes before we hit Joburg they announced that we would be deplaning and getting a different flight to Cape Town. 1 day before we left I had checked and we were supposed to continue on to Cape Town, no deplaning in Joburg. This change allowed 2 hours in which we had to claim baggage, get gun permit (which was to be done in Cape Town), go through imagration, transfer to the domestic terminal, check in and get boarding passes, and recheck all baggage. We made it, barely, and it required some lucky moves, such as a perfect, no hitches gun permit, me being first in line. I would wager that 3 times out of 4, one wouldn't make it. Be forewarned!

Kathi, when I flew, we only stopped at that place (whatever it's called) on the way back. On the way there, we stopped at Capetown. The stop, on the way back was in the early hours of the morning. Peter.

Kathi, My memory of past flights with SAA is an over-water flying time of about 14 hours. Is the Airbus that much slower than the 747s? jim
