Important Schedule Change from South African Airwa
Important Schedule Change from South African Airways **

Effective July 20, 2004, South African Airways will be making a change to its Atlanta schedule.

The short fuel stop in Ilha do Sal en route to South Africa which was instituted over the summer period for the Airbus A340-600 is being extended through September 30th.

The schedule effective July 20th thought September 30th, 2004 will be as follows (all local times):

Atlanta to Johannesburg and Cape Town (Monday/Wednesday/Sunday)

SA212 Dep. ATL 1030 Arr. JNH 1015 Arr. CPT 1325

Atlanta to Cape Town and Johannesburg (Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday)

SA210 Dep. ATL 1030 Arr. CPT 0955 Arr. JNB 1255

Atlanta to Johannesburg (Friday)

SA212 Dep. ATL 1030 Arr. JNB 1015

Johannesburg and Cape Town to Atlanta is unchanged.

I might mention that on my recent Atlanta to Cape Town via Joburg (flight 212), 30 minutes before we hit Joburg they announced that we would be deplaning and getting a different flight to Cape Town. 1 day before we left I had checked and we were supposed to continue on to Cape Town, no deplaning in Joburg. This change allowed 2 hours in which we had to claim baggage, get gun permit (which was to be done in Cape Town), go through imagration, transfer to the domestic terminal, check in and get boarding passes, and recheck all baggage. We made it, barely, and it required some lucky moves, such as a perfect, no hitches gun permit, me being first in line. I would wager that 3 times out of 4, one wouldn't make it. Be forewarned!

Kathi, when I flew, we only stopped at that place (whatever it's called) on the way back. On the way there, we stopped at Capetown. The stop, on the way back was in the early hours of the morning.
Peter.

Kathi,

My memory of past flights with SAA is an over-water flying time of about 14 hours. Is the Airbus that much slower than the 747s?

I thought the JFK flight was direct so I was shocked when we landed in Dakar, I thought I had gotten on the wrong flight!!

Is Dakar still on the itinerary?
