Hi,

I am considering taking a trip to South Africa or Namibia for a plains game hunt (zebra, kudu, impala, warthog, ect) but really don't know where to begin. I have been looking around here and it seems there may be a lot of questionable operators in South Africa. I can't afford to spend a lot of money, maybe $10K - $12K. Would I be better off looking into South Africa or Namibia?

Thanks.

My son and I went in 2007 and hunted with Nihan Engelbrecht of www.huntersgame.co.za

His farm is near Kimberly RSA, we had a great time and got good to very good trophies.

It depends what you are looking for. There are lot of places in SA and Namibia where you can get an excellent safari at a reasonable price. Let's say that 6-10K is more than enough for a good trip with a very good bag of trophies. (Plus air). Otherwise look at the package deals. There are plenty of them on the web and here. After you choose one, ask AR members for their opinion. Good luck in booking!

If I was to do a similar hunt, I look at northern Namibia as I prefer remote Safari type hunts and prefer to leave the modern amenity's and gadgets at home.
A couple company's who would be on my list and coincidentally post here on AR are Vaughn Fulton of Classic Safaris and Karl Stumpf of Ndumo Safaris.

For $12,000 you can do 2 plains game trips so you can do both Namibia and South Africa.

In Namibia I met quite a few PHs who speak German who are culturally German even though their family has been African for 4 or 5 generations. I'm sure that there are also German speaking PHs in South Africa.

It really depends on not only what you want to hunt but if it matters if the property is fenced or not. You can do both types of hunts in both countries but RSA has more fenced areas than Namibia. Most of them however are so large it is a non issue as far as the actual hunting goes. If you give us an I want to shoot list it might be easier to make a recomendation.

Hello
I know a german who lives in Namiba and organises beautiful hunts. He owns a own farm and runs some concessions.
It's unfenced and you really get the flair of africa.

You can combinate this with a tour in Namibia, like i do this summer (Etosche, Caprivi).
For 12k you can do 2trips.

You can contact me on pm or better send me you number and i call you back.

Schöne Grüße

First, you have to decide on exactly what you want. For that, there is a resource put together by an AR Member that will prove very valuable Here.

Both offer excellent hunting, depending upon what you are looking for. I have an example listed in the Outfitters forum under this thread: Great deal on RSA package hunts. PM or email me with questions. I'll be glad to answer them.
Cheers,
David

Since you are from Germany, you will be at home in Namibia esp since many outfitters are German speaking. The vast majority of RSA operators are Afrikaans speakers. There are other reasons to go to Namibia -- easy flight from Frankfurt, no hassles with firearms permits, much bigger properties, very reasonable daily rates, generally less developed/fewer people, and LESS CRIME. In fact the only negative thing I can say about Namibia is the Warthogs are pricy; but offsetting that, the Oryx and Hartebeest are very cheap.

Plus, if you get in trouble he will strangle a leopard to death with his bare hands.

Also, check out Van Heerden Safaris. I hunted with Hentie 3 years ago. Great guy, good animals and reasonable prices.
Good luck.

Which country is best for baboons? Besides the other plainsgame mentioned, I wish to shoot many baboons.

I'm sure that there are also German speaking PHs in South Africa.

Hi Alpinejaeger, you are welcome to hunt with me, I´m a PH of German origin. I hunt on a 10.000 ha farm in the Western Cape, just 2,5 hours from Cape Town, the area is part of the `Little Karoo´. Please contact me if interested.

Alpinejaeger, I will second TJ concerning Schalk Van Heerden and his Bush Africa Safaris
http://www.bushafricasafaris.co.za/
We have hunted with them in 2004 and 2007 and am scheduled to return in 2010. Schalk has his primary site near Ellisras in the Bushveld, and can arrange more concessions in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. We did the Bushveld, Free State and Namibia in 2007, having a wonderful hunt. Every concession we visited had all the equipment you could want, and with Schalk's fine connections, you will have every chance of seeing and taking a shot at the trophies you want. The game is plentiful in Namibia, but requires less time to get on the game than in the Bushveld, in Namibia your hunting experience is over more quickly, which is why we are returning to South Africa instead of Namibia.
