What is your opinion of A Square's Lion Load Soft Point bullet? Is the bullet accurate? How does it feed? Is the bullet "to" soft?

I have used them for pig..... they work well. They are very brittle and seem to fragment very well. I shoot a 450/400 R B Rodda double rifle. They are safe to use in a double. I have never used them on lion but I suspect you would be happy with the results.

The lion load is a very soft, frangible bullet, like a varmint bullet.

I was just looking at some test I ran with my 425Express and the LionLoad. I was shooting at 100yds with a scope and they grouped under an inch. Velocity was 2300fps.

I have not shot any animals with them. I understand, as you have heard, that they are very soft. Some of criticized them for that for their intended use on lions. Kudude

They are great on side on shots but if a chest shot head on the muscle mass is to much for the bullet...

Given a choice, I would avoid these bullets. Lions, or any other animal for that matter, requires bullets that will reach the vitals from any angle, and not brake up if they hit a bone or muscle mass.

Using these very specialised bullets limits one's choice. Something one tries to void while on a safari.

My suggestion is to use one of the premium bullets that are known for good penetration. I know there seems to be some misconception that homogenous bullets like the Barnes X are not recommended for lions.

I have shot a number of lions, and two leopards with X type bullets, and they worked great.

I would not use them. Fragile bullets on big toug dangerous game scare me.
I shot a lion this Nov with my 450/400 double rifle, 400gr Woodleigh Softs at A2200fps from @90 yards. The lion was laying down facing me. The first shot hit in the chest, he just rolled over on his side. The second shot hit the shoulder exited and re-entered the body. I than ran up, and from about 2 feet but a 3rd shot into his spine between his shoulder blades. All 3 bullets mushroomed, NONE exited.

No fragile bullets on lion for me.
